Google Ads or Meta ads?
Short answer: Google Ads reaches the person who is searching for your product or service right now; if demand already exists, it usually brings the fastest results. Meta ads create demand among people who are not searching yet but fit through their interests and behaviour; they are very effective for visually strong products and for retargeting. For most businesses the right question is not “which one” but “in what order and with what budget balance”.
| Criterion | Google Ads | Meta ads |
|---|---|---|
| Where do ads appear? | Google search results, YouTube, Gmail, Google Maps and sites in the Display Network. | Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and apps in the Audience Network. |
| Targeting logic | Intent: the words the person searches for. Demand already exists and the ad answers the need of that moment. | Interests and behaviour: who the person is and what they are interested in. The ad creates demand or reminds. |
| Strongest at | Urgent or planned needs: repairs, lawyers, clinics, B2B services, searched-for products. | Visually strong products, new brands, campaign announcements and bringing back cart abandoners. |
| Creative | In search ads the text and offer are decisive; display and video campaigns also need visuals. | Images and video are decisive; the same creative wears out quickly and needs regular refreshing. |
| Cost | Mostly per click; clicks can be expensive for competitive keywords. | Mostly priced on impressions; reaches a broad audience at a relatively low cost. |
| Measurement | Google Ads conversion tag or GA4 import; enhanced conversions and consent mode are recommended. | Meta Pixel together with the server-side Conversions API; both are needed because of browser restrictions. |
| Who is it for? | If your service or product is already being searched for, start with Google Ads. | If your product is easy to show visually or demand has not formed yet, Meta ads. |

The difference between intent and interest
Someone who types “boiler repair” into Google has a need and is looking for a solution right now; the right ad and the right landing page turn this person into a customer quickly. Someone scrolling Instagram is not looking for anything at that moment; a Meta ad catches their interest, introduces the product and stays in their mind. That is why Google Ads is strong at capturing existing demand, while Meta ads are strong at creating new demand and reminding people. The success of the two channels should also be measured differently: one meets purchase intent, the other sparks interest.

Which comes first in which industry?
In urgent and local services (plumbers, towing, clinic appointments) and in B2B services, search intent is decisive; most of the budget goes to Google Ads. In visual and impulse purchases such as fashion, cosmetics, home decor and gifts, Meta ads are often more efficient. If you are creating a new product category, nobody is searching for it yet; it makes sense to build awareness with Meta first and then capture brand searches on Google. In e-commerce the two work together: Google Shopping and search reach people ready to buy, while Meta retargeting brings back the undecided.

Budget and learning period
The automated bidding systems of both platforms need enough conversion data to learn; splitting a very small budget across many campaigns lets none of them learn. When starting with a small budget, it is healthier to focus on one channel and one goal, and to add the second channel once results become measurable. On Google Ads the budget is planned by the click cost of the targeted keywords; on Meta, by audience size and the number of creatives. Changing campaigns frequently in the first weeks resets the learning.

Do not advertise before measurement is set up
Without conversion tracking, both platforms optimise for clicks or impressions and the budget can go to traffic that brings no sales. On the Google side, a conversion tag or GA4 import, enhanced conversions and consent mode; on the Meta side, the Pixel together with the server-side Conversions API should be set up. Because of browser restrictions and cookie refusals, browser-only measurement remains incomplete. Before a campaign starts, test that goals such as form submissions, calls and purchases are really being recorded.

Notes by country
In Turkey and Europe both platforms are widely used; in Europe, cookie consent and consent mode are part of the measurement setup. In the Gulf countries, Snapchat and TikTok are also strong channels and are often planned alongside Meta. In Russia, Google stopped serving ads in March 2022 and Facebook and Instagram are blocked; Yandex Direct and VK ads are used in this market. Whichever country you advertise in, creative in the audience's language and a landing page in that language directly affect results.

Doki's impartial note
We manage both platforms, and the most common mistake we see is choosing the channel out of habit rather than for the business. If your service is being searched for, capture existing demand with Google Ads first; if your product is visually strong or demand does not exist yet, start with Meta. Add the second channel once measurement is in place and the first channel is profitable. If you are not sure which one suits you, we can review your industry and budget together and draw up a concrete starting plan.
