Main content load time
LCP · The time until the largest image or text block on the page appears on screen; Google counts 2.5 seconds or less as good.
- 01
Why it matters
LCP measures when the visitor sees the page's main content; on most pages it is a large image or heading block. If the main content arrives late, visitors may think the page is empty and leave. Slow server response, oversized images and scripts that block loading are the most common causes.
- 02
Example
The large banner image on the home page is 3 MB and loads late from another server. Once it is resized, converted to a modern format and loaded with priority, the main content appears seconds earlier.
- 03
Common mistake
Lazy-loading the main image. Lazy loading helps for images further down the page; applied to the main image in the first view, it makes LCP longer.
