Interaction response time
INP · The time from a click, tap or key press until the page visibly responds; Google counts 200 milliseconds or less as good.
- 01
Why it matters
INP measures how quickly the page reacts when a visitor presses a button or types something. If the reaction is slow, visitors think the button does not work, click again or give up. Heavy scripts and page code doing too much at once are the usual cause.
- 02
Example
On a shop, the page freezes for half a second when a filter is chosen because the whole product list is recalculated on every click. Once the work is split up and the selection is shown first, the page reacts instantly.
- 03
Common mistake
Adding another script for every new tool. When chat, analytics, advertising and personalisation scripts pile up, interactions slow down; unused ones should be removed and the rest deferred.
