Code review
Review of the code a developer wrote by another developer, for correctness, readability and security, before it is merged.
- 01
Why it matters
Code review is one of the cheapest ways to catch bugs, security flaws and design problems before release; it also spreads knowledge within the team. Small, understandable changes are reviewed better. While automated tools catch formatting and simple errors, the reviewer focuses on logic.
- 02
Example
During review, a developer notices that the newly added discount code is checked only in the browser, not on the server. The check is moved to the server and only then is the change merged.
- 03
Common mistake
Sending a change of thousands of lines for review at once. With large changes, review stays superficial and important problems are missed.
