Continuous integration and continuous delivery
CI/CD · A development process in which code changes are automatically merged and tested, and approved versions are automatically prepared for release or released.

Why it matters
Manual releases are error-prone and cannot be done often. CI/CD runs every change through the same tests, catches problems early and makes small, frequent and safe releases possible. Rolling back to the previous version when something goes wrong also becomes easy.

Example
A team sets up a pipeline in which tests, a security scan and the build run automatically on every code change. A change that passes the tests goes to the test environment first and, after approval, to production with one click.

Common mistake
Setting up the automated pipeline while leaving the tests meaningless or incomplete. If test coverage is weak, the pipeline carries faulty code to production just as fast.
