Google search result preview
The first thing people see in Google is your page title and description. This tool shows how your title and description may look in desktop and mobile results, where they could be cut off, and flags habits that lower clicks.
The preview is calculated in your browser. To improve the tool and prevent abuse, the URL, title and description you enter and the preview suggestions are stored and deleted after 180 days.
Let's review the result together
A title and description alone are not enough; the page has to answer what people search for. We can look at technical SEO and content together.
- 01
There is no character limit, only width
Google does not set a fixed character count for titles and descriptions; it cuts text to fit the screen. Wide letters (M, W) take more space. That is why the tool measures approximate width instead of characters. When the bar turns red, the end of the text may be cut.
- 02
A formula for a good title
Put the search phrase first, state the concrete benefit and put the brand last: 'Dental clinic booking software: online appointments and reminders – Brand'. Give every page a unique title that matches the page heading (H1); Google often rewrites mismatched titles.
- 03
The description affects clicks, not rankings
The meta description does not directly affect rankings but decides whether people click. Answer the searcher's question in the first sentence and say what they will find. Google may replace it with other text it finds more relevant; this is normal.
- 04
When will a change show up?
After Google recrawls the page, which can take from a few days to a few weeks. You can request a crawl with URL Inspection in Search Console. Measure the change in click-through rate in Search Console by comparing a few weeks before and after.
Frequently asked questions
What the tool checks, what it cannot check and how to use the result.
How many characters should a title have?
There is no official limit. Roughly 600 pixels show on desktop, which is about 50–60 characters in most languages. What matters is that the first words carry the search phrase and the benefit.
Why does Google not show the title I wrote?
Google may use other text from the page if the title is too long, stuffed with keywords, mismatched with the page heading or repeated across many pages. Keeping it short and consistent with the main heading reduces this.
Is the preview exactly what Google shows?
No, it is approximate. Google changes fonts, widths and result layouts from time to time; some results also show dates, stars or sitelinks. The preview is for checking whether your text fits.
Is the text I type sent anywhere?
Yes. The preview is calculated in your browser; to improve the tool and prevent abuse, the URL, title, description and preview suggestions are sent to our server, stored and deleted after 180 days. Your IP address itself is not stored, only a one-way hash.
