ikas or Shopify?
Short answer: if most of your sales will be in Turkey, ready-made integrations for marketplaces, local payments and e-invoicing plus Turkish-language support make ikas practical. If you want to sell your brand to a global audience from day one and use a large ecosystem of apps and themes, Shopify is strong; but because Shopify Payments is not offered in Turkey, you need to know its limits on payments and multi-currency.
| Criterion | ikas | Shopify |
|---|---|---|
| What is it? | A Turkey-based e-commerce platform used by subscription; plans are priced in Turkish lira. | A Canada-based e-commerce platform used by subscription and widespread worldwide. |
| Payments | Local payment and virtual POS options; conditional low-commission offers on paid plans. | No Shopify Payments in Turkey; a local payment provider is connected through an app and an extra transaction fee is charged depending on the plan. |
| Marketplaces | Ready-made integration with marketplaces such as Trendyol, Hepsiburada, N11, Amazon and Etsy. | Third-party apps are needed for local marketplaces; coverage depends on the app. |
| E-invoicing | Integrations with providers such as Paraşüt, Sovos and QNB eSolutions. | Through integrations in the app store; options and maturity vary. |
| International sales | E-export plans and international marketplace integrations. | Strong international features; but taking payment in multiple currencies requires Shopify Payments. |
| Ecosystem | Turkey-focused integrations and Turkish-language support. | One of the largest e-commerce app and theme ecosystems in the world. |
| Who is it for? | Shops whose sales are mostly in Turkey and that also sell on marketplaces. | Brands aiming for global sales from the start that want to benefit from the app ecosystem. |

Where will your sales happen?
In this comparison, the most decisive question is where your customers are. For a shop selling in Turkey, local payment, shipping, e-invoicing and marketplace integrations are at the heart of daily work; ikas offers these ready-made for the Turkish market and prices its plans in Turkish lira. Shopify is a global platform: its international selling features, themes and app ecosystem are very broad, but for shops in Turkey some local needs are solved with third-party apps.

Shopify's payment limits in Turkey
Shopify's own payment infrastructure, Shopify Payments, is not offered in Turkey according to Shopify's official list. In this case a local payment provider is connected through the app store, and Shopify charges an extra transaction fee, depending on the plan, for using a third-party provider. In addition, according to Shopify's documentation, taking payment from customers in their own currency requires Shopify Payments or Adyen; with other payment providers, all customers pay in the store's default currency. If you plan to sell abroad, take these limits into account from the start.

Marketplace and e-invoicing integration
In Turkey many shops sell on marketplaces such as Trendyol, Hepsiburada and N11 alongside their own site; managing stock, prices and orders from a single panel saves a great deal of time. According to ikas's official site, integrations with these marketplaces and with e-invoicing providers such as Paraşüt, Sovos and QNB eSolutions are included in its plans, with the scope expanding depending on the plan chosen. On Shopify, similar needs are met with third-party apps; when choosing an app, check how current it is, its support and any extra monthly fees.

Comparing costs properly
ikas plans are priced in Turkish lira excluding VAT; when Shopify's plan prices are set in a foreign currency, their lira equivalent changes with the exchange rate. On both sides, the total cost adds payment commissions, extra app or integration fees and theme costs; on Shopify this also includes the extra transaction fee for a third-party payment provider. Compare the annual total cost including payment fees based on expected monthly revenue, and check current prices on both providers' official pages.

Selling abroad
If your goal is to sell abroad from Turkey, there are two paths. ikas offers solutions for shops exporting from Turkey through e-export plans and international marketplace integrations. Shopify's international selling tools are strong, but for a company in Turkey the payment and currency limits remain. If you plan to set up a company abroad and sell from there, operating in a country where Shopify Payments is offered can change the picture; make this decision together with your accountant.

Doki's impartial note
For a shop whose sales are mostly in Turkey and that also sells on marketplaces, a platform with local integrations built in usually means less hassle. If you are building a global brand from the start and have a setup that gets around the payment limits, Shopify's ecosystem is a major advantage. Both platforms are rented infrastructure; if you need custom business rules or deep integration, custom e-commerce is also among the options. We can review your sales channels and target markets together and determine the right starting point.
