Upselling
Offering the customer a more advanced, larger or more comprehensive version of the product they want to buy.
- 01
Why it matters
Upselling benefits both customer and business when it makes the option that better meets the customer's need visible. The difference should be explained clearly and the price gap should be reasonable. A comparative rather than pushy presentation works better.
- 02
Example
A hosting company offers customers who choose the basic plan a higher plan with backups and more storage, using a comparison that shows the differences in one line; some customers choose the higher plan.
- 03
Common mistake
Pushing the expensive option the customer does not need. Revenue may rise in the short term, but returns and lost trust do harm in the long run.
