PageSpeed Insights
Google's free tool that measures a page's speed with lab tests and real user data and offers improvement suggestions.
- 01
Why it matters
The tool shows two kinds of data: field data collected from real visitors and a one-off lab test. Field data is what matters for ranking; the lab result helps find the causes of problems. Suggestions should be applied starting with the steps that will have the most impact.
- 02
Example
A shop's lab score is low, but real user data looks good on every metric. The team focuses on the product page, where most mobile visitors are on slow connections, and improves it.
- 03
Common mistake
Chasing a score of 100. The score is a lab summary; a few points of difference matter far less than the visitor experience and conversions.
