Large language model
LLM · An AI model trained on a very large amount of text that can understand language and generate new text; it is the basis of assistants such as ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini.
- 01
Why it matters
Large language models noticeably speed up work such as drafting, summarising, translation and customer support. But they produce likely text, not verified information, and can state wrong information confidently. Which data may be entered into these tools should also be set by company policy.
- 02
Example
A support team uses a large language model to draft replies to incoming questions, and an employee checks and sends each reply. Average response time drops while wrong information never reaches the customer.
- 03
Common mistake
Pasting customers' personal data or confidential contracts into public AI tools without checking the provider's data usage terms.
