AI hallucination
An AI model producing information that is not grounded in fact, for example a source that does not exist or a wrong figure, in a confident tone.
- 01
Why it matters
Language models produce the most likely-looking text, not verified information, so they can give fluent but wrong answers. In legal, medical, financial or technical content these errors can cause real harm. Every important claim should be checked against a reliable source before it is published or used.
- 02
Example
A blog post prepared with AI cites a regulation article that does not exist. While checking the source, the editor cannot find the article and the post is corrected before publication.
- 03
Common mistake
Publishing the sources, figures and quotations an AI provides without checking them. A made-up source damages the credibility of the entire piece.
