Indexing
A search engine storing a page it has crawled in its database; a page that is not indexed cannot appear in search results.
- 01
Why it matters
For a page to appear in search it must first be discovered, then crawled and indexed. A page that is not indexed will not appear in results, however well it is written. Google does not have to index every page; similar, thin or technically blocked pages can be left out.
- 02
Example
A new service page has not appeared in search for weeks. The URL inspection tool in Search Console shows it accidentally carries a noindex tag; once the tag is removed and indexing is requested, the page appears within days.
- 03
Common mistake
Requesting indexing again and again for every page that is not indexed. The problem is usually content quality, duplicates or a technical block; requests do not change the outcome until the cause is fixed.
