Google Search Console
Google's free tool that shows site owners their site's visibility in search, its indexing status and technical problems.
- 01
Why it matters
Search Console shows which searches you appear for, click and impression counts, pages that are not indexed and why, page experience and security issues. It is the only place where you get information directly from Google; manual actions are reported here too. It is the first tool every site owner should set up.
- 02
Example
A site owner notices traffic dropping. Search Console shows that hundreds of pages accidentally received noindex after the last update; the problem is fixed the same day.
- 03
Common mistake
Setting up the tool and only opening it when traffic drops. If alerts and index reports are watched regularly, problems are caught before they turn into lost traffic.
