Deep link
A link that takes the user directly to a specific page of an app, for example a product or an order, instead of its home screen.
- 01
Why it matters
If a link in an e-mail, ad or notification drops the user on the home screen, they have to search for what they wanted and often give up. A deep link shortens the journey; it should be set up to send users to the store or to the web page with the same content if the app is not installed.
- 02
Example
The “Go to product” link in a campaign e-mail opens the product directly in the app if it is installed; if not, it shows the product's web page.
- 03
Common mistake
Not testing how deep links behave for users who do not have the app installed. These users can end up on an error page or a blank screen.
