Cookie consent

A site running non-essential cookies, such as analytics and advertising cookies, only with the visitor's explicit consent, and allowing that consent to be managed.

  1. 01

    Why it matters

Both the KVKK cookie guide and European rules expect prior consent for non-essential cookies. On the consent banner, rejecting must be as easy as accepting, and visitors must be able to change their decision later. Analytics and advertising scripts must not run before consent is given.

  2. 02

    Example

On one site the “Accept” and “Reject” buttons have the same size and sit on the same layer. For visitors who reject, the analytics script is not loaded; the choice can be changed later through a link in the footer.

  3. 03

    Common mistake

Running the scripts anyway while the banner is showing, or hiding the reject option on a second screen. Despite the banner, it amounts to tracking without permission in practice.
