Cloud computing
Providing computing resources such as servers, storage, databases and software over the internet, as much as needed and paid for by usage.
- 01
Why it matters
The cloud lets you start resources within minutes without buying hardware, growing as load rises and shrinking as it falls. Security, however, is a shared responsibility: the provider protects the infrastructure, while configuration, access and data are your responsibility. Costs can rise quickly if not monitored.
- 02
Example
An education platform gets ten times the traffic during exam weeks. Thanks to automatic scaling in the cloud, the number of servers rises during exam week and then falls again on its own; the company pays only for what it uses.
- 03
Common mistake
Leaving storage buckets and management panels on default open settings. A significant share of cloud data leaks comes from misconfiguration.
