Content delivery network
CDN · A distributed network of servers that copies a site's files to locations around the world and serves each visitor from the nearest point.
- 01
Why it matters
The shorter the distance between visitor and server, the faster the page opens; for sites serving different countries the difference is significant. A content delivery network also reduces load on the main server and protects the site by absorbing attack traffic. It is especially effective for static files and cacheable pages.

Example
A site served from Istanbul opens slowly for visitors in Germany. Once images and pages are served through a content delivery network, load time from Germany is halved.
- 03
Common mistake
Turning the network on without defining cache rules. Wrong rules can cause updated content to show late or personal pages to be shown to other people.
