Why it matters
Category pages are the most important pages for ranking on generic searches such as “women's trainers”. A short, useful introduction, the right filters and fast loading help both visitors and search engines. Filter combinations producing endless addresses, however, cause crawling problems.

A shop adds a sizing guide and the two most frequently asked questions to its category pages and removes filtered addresses from the index. The category pages climb in generic searches.

Common mistake
Putting a long, keyword-stuffed text at the top of the category page. Visitors have to scroll to reach the products; the text should be short and useful.
