User interface
UI · The whole of the screens, buttons, text, colours and components that a user sees and interacts with in an app or site.
- 01
Why it matters
The interface shapes the user's first impression and how easily they get their job done. Consistent components, readable text, sufficient colour contrast and clear status messages build trust and reduce errors. Looking good is not enough on its own; the interface has to work.
- 02
Example
In a dashboard, the “Save” button sits top right on some screens and bottom left on others. Once it is moved to the same place with the same look on every screen, complaints from users forgetting to save decrease.
- 03
Common mistake
Designing every screen separately without shared components. The same action looks different everywhere and users have to relearn each screen.
