Prototype
A preliminary model of a product or screen flow, clickable before it is developed, prepared to test the idea.
- 01
Why it matters
A prototype lets users and decision-makers experience the product before any code is written. Problems in the flow and misunderstood expectations surface at the cheap stage, and the development team sees clearly what is to be built.
- 02
Example
A clickable prototype of a booking app is tried with five users. Three of them cannot find the time selection after choosing a date, so the screen layout is changed before development.
- 03
Common mistake
Mistaking the prototype for the finished product, or presenting it to the client that way. Even if it looks ready, the system, data and security behind it do not exist yet.
