Headless CMS
A content management system that only manages content and delivers it through an API, without being tied to the front end that decides how pages look.
- 01
Why it matters
The same content can be distributed from a single source to the website, mobile app and other channels, and the front end can be developed freely for speed and design. In return, ready-made features such as previews, page layouts and plugins need more development than in classic systems.
- 02
Example
A news site manages its content in a headless system; the same article is shown in different formats on the website, the mobile app and smartwatch notifications.
- 03
Common mistake
Moving to a headless system without accounting for editors' need for preview and page layout editing. The team ends up publishing content without seeing how it looks.
