Password manager

An application that generates long, unique passwords for every account, stores them in an encrypted vault and fills them in at sign-in.

  1. 01

    Why it matters

Because people cannot memorise dozens of passwords, they reuse the same one, and a single leak puts every account at risk. A password manager makes it easy to give each account a separate strong password. Since it does not autofill on a fake site, it also acts as an extra warning against phishing.

  2. 02

    Example

A team kept shared account passwords in a spreadsheet. After moving to a business password manager, every account gets a new strong password, access is shared per person and a leaver's access is removed with one click.

  3. 03

    Common mistake

Choosing a weak master password or leaving the vault without multi-factor authentication. With all the keys in one place, the vault itself must be the best-protected account.
