Privileged access management
PAM · Separately protecting, recording and limiting high-privilege access such as server administrator, database administrator and cloud administrator accounts.
- 01
Why it matters
Attackers' real target is administrator accounts; if one is taken over, the whole environment is at risk. Granting privileged access only when needed and for a limited time, recording sessions and keeping passwords in a vault reduce the risk of both attacks and insider misuse.
- 02
Example
In one team nobody has permanent administrator rights. When a server needs maintenance, the person opens a request, receives two hours of access once approved, and their actions are recorded.
- 03
Common mistake
Using administrator accounts for everyday e-mail and browsing too. Admin accounts should be used only for administration, with daily work done in a separate account with limited rights.
