Why it matters
Antivirus is still a basic layer: it automatically stops most known malware. Against targeted or new attacks, or those that misuse legitimate tools, it can fall short. That is why in larger environments it is complemented by endpoint solutions that monitor behaviour and offer response capabilities.

An employee tries to run a pirated program they downloaded; antivirus recognises the file as a known trojan, quarantines it and warns the user.

Common mistake
Installing antivirus and then not following its updates and alerts. Outdated definitions do not recognise new threats, and alerts are useless if nobody looks at them.
