My Google Business Profile was suspended out of nowhere, how do I get it reinstated?

We've been running a plumbing and HVAC service (idraulico) in Rome for four years. Two weeks ago, we updated our business hours in the dashboard and appended "Roma" to the end of our business name. Exactly two days later, our profile was suddenly suspended for "deceptive content or quality guidelines."

We had over 140 genuine customer reviews, and almost all of our incoming jobs came straight from local Maps searches. Right now our phones have gone completely dead, business has come to a total halt. I rushed to submit an appeal form through the dashboard, but 8 days have passed without any reply.

The system doesn't provide a clear explanation, so I don't even know exactly what I did wrong. What official documents do I need to prepare to get our profile out of suspension, and what should my next steps be?

Short answer: Adding a city name or keywords to your business title directly violates guidelines, which triggered an algorithmic suspension; your first step must be reverting the business name to match your official registered trade name exactly. Uploading documents or spamming multiple appeals before fixing this will completely stall the process.

Here's how to handle reinstatement: 1) Clean up your profile data: Change the business name to match your official business registry (Visura Camerale) and remove any keyword stuffing. If you don't have a physical walk-in storefront and only travel to clients, hide your address and switch to a Service Area Business (SAB) model. 2) Prepare your proof: Gather your Visura Camerale under the business name, a utility bill showing the business name and address (electric or landline internet), and photos of branded service vehicles or tools/signage into a single PDF or folder.

3) Use the appeals tool: Submit your documents through Google's official appeals tool, and include a clear note in the reason field: "We added the city to our name due to a misunderstanding of guidelines, but we have reverted it to match our official legal entity name; official documents attached." Once submitted, you'll receive a Case ID; do not submit any new appeals until you hear back on that case.

Plumbing falls under Google's "high-risk service" category because fake profiles are rampant. If you don't have street-facing physical signage, showing your address on Maps is an instant trigger for suspension. Hide your address in the dashboard and set up service areas instead (Rome and surrounding districts).

The biggest panic mistake is creating a brand-new profile with the same phone and address. Do not do that—the algorithm flags it as outright spam, and you'll lose all your old reviews for good. Appealing the existing listing is the only way out.

edit: I wrote something wrong above, sorry about that.

The exact same thing happened to our cleaning company in Naples. After fixing the name, submitting our tax registration, and providing photos of our branded van, the profile was reinstated on day 11 with every single review intact. Average wait time is typically 1-2 weeks.

Make sure to save the Case ID from the appeals portal. If two weeks go by without any email update, head over to the Google Business Profile Help Community forum and ask a Product Expert to escalate your case for manual review using that Case ID.

Here's a checklist of documents you should add to your case: 1) An up-to-date Visura Camerale record, 2) An electric or telecom utility bill under the company's name from the last two months, 3) Photos of a vehicle, work uniform, or toolbag showing your business name, 4) A copy of your tax registration certificate from the Italian revenue agency (Agenzia delle Entrate).

edit: typed from phone, sorry for typos.

sorry to hear that, this is literally every local business owners nightmare. a lot of people recommend adding the city to the end of the name as an SEO tactic, but with the recent updates they catch it instantly. as long as you upload clean legible documents it always gets reinstated dont lose hope.

Don't waste your time trying to message Google Support directly or reaching out on social media; those departments have nothing to do with Maps suspensions. The process only works through the official appeal tool and with the right official documents.

There's a common mistake people make when doing this. The answer varies greatly by industry; there is no one-size-fits-all rule.

Good luck with that.

This is exactly what we experienced. Ranking is the result, search intent is the input. Look at intent first.

I think it's hard to be that definitive about google business profile suspended. The answer varies greatly by industry; there is no one-size-fits-all rule.

Start with a small trial; don't commit to everything at once. Hope this helps.

The opposite happened to me that's why I'm writing. Taking notes for two weeks yields better results than a six-month estimate.

Good luck with that.

We experienced almost the exact same thing last year. Don't hesitate to ask; those who don't ask always pay more.

Hope this helps.

The opposite happened to me, that's why I'm writing. A competitor's ranking might come from years of accumulation, not just their content.

Let me summarize what's been said so far. Ranking is the result, search intent is the input. Look at intent first.

This is my opinion, I'm not claiming it's absolute truth.

I was thinking the same thing. Trying to do this alone is the most expensive way.

If you post the result here, it will help others too.

This is exactly what we experienced. When making a decision, first look at what data you have on hand.

Just leaving this note, it might be useful.
