We got a quote for an SEO consulting package, what should it actually cover and is it really right for us?

We are a manufacturer based in Bursa producing industrial machinery parts and hydraulic fittings. I mean we have roughly 1,200 technical product pages and catalogs on our website but we get almost zero organic leads from Google searches. All our incoming orders come strictly from our existing client base or from trade shows we attend in person.

Recently, a digital marketing agency offered us a 6-month SEO package for 18,000 TL + VAT per month. like the proposal includes 4 blog posts a month first-page ranking work for 10 target keywords and a backlink package... However, we're struggling to understand from a technical standpoint how these specific deliverables will actually help a manufacturing company like ours.

What should a standard scope of work for SEO consulting look like in the technical parts and B2B sector? anyway do these kinds of ready-made packages really deliver results or should a manufacturer of our size follow a completely different roadmap?

Short answer: Real SEO consulting is a specialized engineering process that aligns your site's technical architecture with search engines while structuring content and category hierarchies tailored to search intent. Off-the-shelf packages that guarantee keyword rankings and churn out generic blog posts are totally inadequate for the B2B sector and almost always a waste of your budget.

If you're managing a 1,200-product catalog in the B2B space, what you actually need isn't high-level blog posts; it's proper technical structuring of your product pages and category tree. Purchasing managers looking for hydraulic fittings aren't reading broad industry articles; they are searching for part numbers, pressure ratings, dimension standards, and technical spec sheets. That's why the first two months of any consulting engagement should focus on a comprehensive technical audit (site speed, crawl/indexing issues, broken links, and structured data architecture).

The promise to get you on page one for 10 keywords is a massive red flag. No agency can control search engine algorithms; promises like that usually end with them ranking you for zero-competition terms that nobody actually searches for, just so they can claim a win. On top of that, buying bulk, uncontrolled backlinks can get your site completely de-indexed.

The proper consulting scope you should be looking for must include these 3 concrete deliverables: 1) Technical SEO fixes for product variants and PDF catalogs, 2) Analysis and category optimization targeting high-intent B2B search terms, 3) A genuine digital PR plan to build topical authority within your industry. I strongly suggest steering clear of any cookie-cutter packages that don't offer this foundation.

4 blog posts a month and a 10-keyword guarantee is a stale agency template straight out of a decade ago. You're never going to sell industrial fittings to a corporate procurement manager through a blog post don't waste your money.

On a 1,200-product catalog, the absolute most critical piece is structured data markup. If product codes, technical spec tables, and PDF docs aren't surfaced properly to search engine bots, you could write mountains of copy and still get zero organic visibility.

Before signing any contract, ask the agency to just do a standalone technical audit of your site. Pay a one-off fee for the analysis; evaluate the technical depth of that report first, and only then decide whether to commit to a 6-month contract.

A solid B2B SEO contract needs to have 3 core deliverables: 1) A comprehensive technical crawl completed in the first month with an actionable bug list for your developer, 2) A search-intent map broken down by category, 3) Monthly reporting covering organic visibility and RFQ form conversions.

Edit: asked below, I wrote the answer in the second message.

We bought a similar 6-month package for our automotive sub-industry site, paid 16,000 TL a month. They kept publishing generic blogs like "what is hydraulics". Sure we ranked, but the incoming traffic was entirely interns and students searching for homework info; didn't generate a single quote request. Once we hired a specialist who cleaned up our technical issues, orders started rolling in directly from part number searches.

packaged seo just means copy pasting the exact same template for every client. like that backlink package usually means blasting links from garbage sites they'll get your site flagged for spam watch out.

So to fix these technical SEO issues do we have to get our web developer involved too, or does the SEO consultant go in and touch the code directly?

Organic conversions in B2B require patience, but they're incredibly valuable. When talking to the agency, skip the broad keyword talk and ask for a concrete roadmap to rank your actual product part numbers (like OEM codes) directly in Google searches.

edit: I wrote something wrong above, sorry about that.

let me summarize the topic, since several different answers were given then when we decide without measuring we always end up in the same place.

everything goes well for the first three months; problems arise in the fourth. anyway this is my opinion I'm not claiming it's absolute truth.

Let me summarize the topic, since several different answers were given. Everyone rushing into what seo consulting covers gets stuck at the same point.

If I were you, I'd go this route.

This approach has a cost, which isn't discussed. A page with low traffic might be reaching the right people. Look at where sales come from.

If it's your first time, start small; scaling comes later. Of course, it varies if your situation is different.

Saved. Start with a small trial; don't commit to everything at once.

I don't think this advice fits everyone. Everything goes well for the first three months; problems arise in the fourth.

That's all, sorry if I went on too long.

I felt relieved reading this answer, so it's not just me. A competitor's ranking might come from years of accumulation, not just their content.

Good luck with that.

don't miss this: Any unwritten clause becomes a point of disagreement later as both sides remember it differently.

I'd appreciate it if you shared the outcome. Discussing numbers without verifying the measurement setup is a waste of time.

Map listings bring more business than blog posts for most local businesses. If I were you, I'd go this route.
