Incorrect edit applied to Google Business Profile — does the appeals tool actually work?

We've been actively using our business profile for our pottery studio in Kadıköy for 4 years, with over 120 genuine customer reviews, but last week something weird happened. Someone or some algorithm suggested changing our hours to closed on weekends and moved our address to an unrelated street number nearby, and the system approved it and went live.

On Saturday, three customers walked away because the map said we were closed. As soon as I realized, I immediately tried to revert the info through the dashboard, but the edits got stuck on "under review." I then submitted a ticket via the business profile appeals tool, attaching photos of our storefront sign, tax certificate, and lease agreement.

Even though 6 business days have passed, there is still zero update on the appeal status, and I haven't received anything other than a case ID. Does this appeals tool actually lead to results, or is there another route I should take to speed up the process and get our correct location back on the map?

Short answer: The business profile appeals tool does work, but it's primarily designed for suspensions and account restrictions rather than direct info updates; resolving third-party edit conflicts like addresses and business hours usually takes 7 to 14 business days. The safest route is waiting for the existing ticket to close without opening a new appeal, while simultaneously submitting a user edit via Maps.

Within the Google Maps ecosystem, edits suggested by users and Local Guides can algorithmically take precedence over changes submitted through the owner dashboard. When repeated edits from the dashboard get rejected in quick succession the system flags the listing for suspicious activity. That's why you shouldn't submit duplicate requests on top of your existing appeal case; every new submission resets the timeline.

To speed up the process and provide proof, take these steps: 1) Reply to your case email with clear outdoor photos showing your street number, studio signage and the street sign together. 2) Ensure the contact details on your website and social media profiles match the Maps listing formatting down to the letter. 3) Have two trusted Local Guide accounts submit a "Suggest an edit" request for the correct hours and address directly within the Maps app.

Usually, once the support team reviews the verification documents against Street View they issue a manual approval and hand full control of the locked profile back to you.

the appeal form is super slow unfortunately. a competitor changed our phone number once, it took them a full 11 days to fix it. if u got an email just reply to that and wait whatever u do don't mess with the dashboard or they might suspend it.

A similar thing happened to our client's restaurant listing last month. Exactly 9 days after using the appeals tool, the manual review was approved. We saw a noticeable dip in inbound calls from Maps during that period, but being patient and avoiding duplicate tickets was key.

Take your case ID to the Google Business Help Community forum. Product experts there can sometimes escalate the case directly to the internal team; I've seen it get resolved much faster than the standard appeal route.

I'm pretty sure the appeals tool relies on an automated document-reading bot. If the address format on your lease doesn't match the map character for character, the bot flags it and puts it on hold. Double-check everything even street abbreviations.

Happened to me too, they marked our furniture shop as permanently closed. For an entire week customers kept calling asking if we'd moved. I hung a huge sign with our hours on the door, recorded a walk-in video from the street showing the sign, and attached it to the ticket email. Fixed the next day.

If there was a third-party edit under the pending edits tab in your profile manager dashboard, you should have rejected it right away. Once the appeals process kicks in, the ownership verification procedure is triggered all over again.

Do you have local business schema markup set up on your website? If bots can't match your Business Profile with the clear address and working hours on your site they accept external edits way more easily.

It's super important to stay calm during the appeal process. This kind of Maps mess usually happens because your workshop gets more popular and ends up on spam bots' radar. Whatever you do, don't delete your profile and try to start over while your support ticket is open—you'll lose all your reviews.

I agree. The harder it is to reverse a decision, the slower you should make it.

If you post the result here, it will help others too.

I've been dealing with this for a long time. A competitor's ranking might come from years of accumulation, not just their content.

If you have questions, write them; I'll answer as best I can.

Exactly like that. Speed is a threshold issue; if you're already fast, making it faster changes nothing.

Most time waste accumulates in tasks waiting for approval. Of course, it varies if your situation is different.

there's a trap here, let me mention it then everyone rushing into business profile appeals tool gets stuck at the same point.

any unwritten clause becomes a point of disagreement later as both sides remember it dfiferently but btw good luck with that.

I agree with this. Updating an existing page yields faster results than creating a new one.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Let me summarize what's been said so far. Don't trust anyone who gives guarantees; there are no guarantees in this business.

Of course, it varies if your situation is different.

we experienced almost the exact same thing last year. like solutions that work at a small scale collapse when you grow; I learned this late.

if you post the result here, it will help others too.

Ive been dealing with this for a long time. like map listings bring more business than blog posts for most local businesses.

Thats all, sorry if I went on too long.
