Looking for keywords for my store — what free tools are actually enough without paying for a subscription?

we set up a boutique e-commerce site based in Riyadh selling specialty roasted coffee beaans manual brewing gear and filter papers and like as two co-founders we finished the site and uploaded product descriptions and photos, but even though it's been a month since launch, we're getting almost zero organic traffic from search engines.

while researching where to start with SEO, we came across professional keywrd tools. however monthly subscriptions for popular analytics platforms start around 450-500 SAR. anyway since sales have just begun and our marketing budget is very limited, we really don't want to take on fixed monthly software expenses at this stage.

how can we build our initial core keyword list for our e-commerce site without spending money or on a shoe-string budget? honestly which free tools offer geuinely useful data for structuring category and product pages?

Short answer: For a newly launched e-commerce site, you definitely do not need to pay for subscriptions to optimize your category and product hierarchy at the start. The free data provided directly by search engines and their autocomplete features are more than enough to understand user intent and build your initial core list of 50-100 keywords.

Follow this free method to build your initial list: 1) Search Bar and Related Searches: Type your main category (e.g., coffee brewing gear) into the search engine and go letter by letter (a, b, c...), saving the popular suggested phrases into a spreadsheet. The related searches section at the very bottom shows what secondary needs users are actually searching for. 2) Google Keyword Planner: Open a free ad account and access the keyword planner without launching a campaign; even though volumes show up as ranges (like 100-1K) instead of exact figures, it helps you grasp the relative popularity of terms. 3) Google Trends: Compare which brewing method or bean variety has been trending in Saudi Arabia recently on a regional basis, completely free.

The fundamental difference between the free method and paid tools is data depth; paid tools show competitor backlinks and real-time click difficulty, but at the early stage of e-commerce, what you need is proper product naming and category titles matching search intent rather than competitive analysis. Until your site gets regular orders and generates monthly revenue, this free combination will easily handle your entire page architecture.

There are free web-based suggestion scraper tools to quickly pull queries from Google's search bar. You just type in your seed keyword and download all the A-to-Z autocomplete results in Excel format with one click. When mapping out category names, this method gets the job done in half an hour.

When we launched a similar niche store last year, we didn't spend a dime on paid SEO tools for the first six months. At zero cost, using only search engine suggestions and Search Console data, we optimized our product titles. By month four, we hit 60 orders a month from organic search; only then did we upgrade to a software subscription.

If the site is live, verify your Google Search Console right away. Even if you're barely getting visitors yet, you can check the 'Performance' tab in the console to see the long-tail keywords where you're getting impressions but no clicks. This data is the cleanest direct source showing the actual queries real users match your site with.

easiest way is checking out competitor sitemaps. look at the category trees and product url structures of big coffee sites, those guys already spent money and tested those keywords. anyway don't copy paste them 1:1, but see what subcategories they set up.

Even if you pay 500 SAR a month for those popular tools, you won't find a magic bullet. The search volumes they offer for local Arabic terms are often misleading and delayed. In a local market, the most reliable data is the natural spoken language that local customers type into the search bar.

When picking keywords in e-commerce, focusing solely on high search volume is the biggest mistake you can make early on. You won't rank for generic terms like 'coffee'. Focus on long-tail keywords with buying intent like 'V60 filter paper 100 pack' or 'cold brew pitcher'; you can easily find those with free tools.

If we use the suggested keywords from the search bar directly as product titles will search engines view it as duplicate content or spam, or should we blend them naturally into a sentence?

Type your product name into the internal search bars of major local marketplaces too; their autocomplete suggestions give you the exact wording used by shoppers ready to buy.

Let me share my experience... When making a decision, first look at what data you have on hand.

The biggest time-waster for us was not knowing who had the final say. I mean if I were you, I'd go this route.

I'm in the same situation, that's why I'm asking. Updating an existing page yields faster results than creating a new one.

If you have questions, write them; I'll answer as best I can.

I'm in the same situation, that's why I'm asking. When you try to change everything at once, nothing settles.

Let me clarify the technical side. Most time waste accumulates in tasks waiting for approval.

This is my opinion, I'm not claiming it's absolute truth.

Thanks a lot, I'll try it today. Map listings bring more business than blog posts for most local businesses.

If you post the result here, it will help others too.

Let me summarize what's been said so far. Speed is a threshold issue; if you're already fast, making it faster changes nothing.

Just leaving this note it might be useful.

Noted, thanks. When you try to change everything at once, nothing settles.

Discussing numbers without verifying the measurement setup is a waste of time.

I'm a small business, let me explain from my side. Most time waste accumulates in tasks waiting for approval.

Solutions that work at a small scale collapse when you grow; I learned this late. Hope this helps.

I've been dealing with this for a long time. Map listings bring more business than blog posts for most local businesses.

A competitor's ranking might come from years of accumulation, not just their content. Hope this helps.
