I'm using ChatGPT SEO prompts to write content — which prompts actually work?

To boost organic traffic for our pet supplies e-commerce site, I started generating content with ChatGPT over the last two months. So far, I've had it write around 70 blog posts and 40 category descriptions. I usually use ready-made templates floating around online, with prompts like "Write a 1000-word SEO-friendly article on X with this specific keyword density."

At first glance, the articles looked pretty fluent and error-free, so we published them all. But looking at Search Console, almost none of them are ranking, and 20 of them are stuck on "Discovered - currently not indexed." I'm doing something wrong, but I can't quite put my finger on it.

How should I actually use AI so it delivers real SEO value? What prompting logic works, and where do we need to step in as editors?

Short answer: Content generated straight from "write me an SEO-friendly article" prompts is seen as zero-value duplicate text by search engines; use ChatGPT as a research assistant to map search intent, list user questions, and create semantic outlines, not as the primary writer.

When search engines index a page, they don't look at word count; they look at what fresh value you bring to the searcher compared to existing pages. Handing an AI a single prompt to write an entire article produces a bland summary averaging out what's already on the web. In SEO, that's called a lack of information gain, and those pages don't even get indexed.

The approach that works is breaking the process down. Step one, feed your target keyword and prompt: "What are the top 5 unresolved questions and pain points a pet owner searching this topic has?" to capture search intent. Step two, generate a structured outline (H2, H3) covering those questions. Finally, generate the text section by section, weaving in your own product expertise, vet advice, and real customer experiences. Let AI build the skeleton; you supply the hands-on expertise.

I started seeing results once I split the workflow into three steps: 1) Feed the top 5 ranking competitors' headings and ask "List the missing angles not covered here", 2) Build a heading outline based on those gaps, 3) Generate each section separately and layer in our own store data and practical experience.

We published 50 blog posts straight from raw prompts and only got 14 clicks over 3 months. Then we pulled 10 of them back, added real product photos, clear portioning charts, and our own insights. Those 10 articles alone now bring in 3,200 organic visits a month.

if u just copy-paste it always ends with the exact same cliché then there are hundreds of pet shops right now ending with 'in conclusion our furry friends' health is...' just wipe those parts completely and write your own genuine closing thought.

Indexation issues tie directly to quality signals. Your page gets crawled, evaluated for semantic vector similarity against existing index entries, and skipped to save crawl budget if it doesn't bring new data. You have to feed primary source data into your prompts.

Is there any concrete information in those cat food articles? Do they mention specific protein percentages, effects on shedding or suitable breeds, or is it just generic fluff like "choosing quality food is essential"?

Forget premade prompts. Feed ChatGPT your actual customer service logs: tell it, 'Draft a guide answering these 10 questions we got about pet food allergies over the past month.' That’s how you solve a real problem, and that’s how the rankings follow.

If typing "write me a 1000-word SEO-friendly article" actually drove organic traffic, there wouldn't be a single SEO specialist or content writer left on earth. Thinking search engines are that naive is wishful thinking to put it mildly.

Search engine guidelines clearly state that even if content is generated using AI, it must provide genuine value to the user, demonstrate expertise, and offer verifiable information. Raw AI outputs cannot sustain rankings in the long term.

Exactly, and not many people know this. If you don't write this down from the start, it leads to arguments later.

Don't hesitate to ask; those who don't ask always pay more. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I've been down this road, let me tell you. Ranking is the result, search intent is the input. Look at intent first.

I think differently. The real issue isn't the number, but what it's based on.

If you have questions, write them; I'll answer as best I can.

This is exactly what we experienced. Hasty decisions become decisions you have to fix six months later.

If you post the result here it will help others too.

I agree, and I'd like to emphasize that. Everyone rushing into chatgpt seo tips gets stuck at the same point.

When making decisions, write down the worst-case scenario too, not just the best. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Exactly, and not many people know this. Taking notes for two weeks yields better results than a six-month estimate.

If you have questions write them; I'll answer as best I can.

I have no experience with chatgpt seo tips, so I'm asking. Internal linking is the cheapest and most neglected task.

If I were you, I'd go this route.
