Agency proposed producing "SEO content" — how is it different from a regular blog post?

we are a 12-person company manufacturing and wholesaling commercial kitchen equipment then for about a year now, I've been writinng one or two posts a week for our website's blog. i cover how to use our products, stainless steel grades and things to consider when setting up a restaurant kitchen all in a candid and detailed tone.

the digital marketing agency we hired last month told us that my posts are great from an industry standpoint but they arent "SEO content." Claiming thats why we areent pulling in organic visitors from search engines they pitched a budget of 24,000 TL per month to produce 12 SEO-friendly articles.

honestly, I'm confused. what exactly is this "SEO content," and how does it differ technically and practically from the in-depth blog posts I write? is it worth paying the agency this budget or should I just keep writing the way I know how?

Short answer: SEO content isn't just free-form writing based solely on the author's own expertise; it's strategic copy crafted by analyzing the actual terms users search for on Google, their search volumes, and their search intent. Even if a standard blog post is packed with flawless information, it won't rank high on Google without structural headings that help the search engine understand the content and the specific search queries users actually use.

In practice, the most concrete difference is the objective: Drawing on your experience, you might write a great piece titled "The Importance of Stainless Steel in Restaurant Kitchens." An SEO specialist, however, looks at search data first; they see potential clients searching for "commercial kitchen counter dimensions" or "industrial dishwasher prices." The content is then structured with H2 and H3 tags that directly answer those exact questions, links back to relevant product pages, and aligns fully with search intent.

In your case, handing over 24,000 TL and leaving content creation entirely to an agency will likely end in disappointment; commercial kitchen equipment is a technical niche, and an agency copywriter won't know your products like you do. Suggest a hybrid model instead: Have the agency deliver high-volume keywords, common customer questions, and heading outlines (content briefs), and let you fill in the technical details. That way, you protect your budget while infusing the copy with the real-world expertise Google looks for.

The core technical difference is search intent. Google cares much more about the goal behind the search than just counting words nowadays. Is the user looking for information, comparing products, or ready to buy? SEO content is built around that intent; proper header tags (H1, H2, H3), semantic concepts, and internal linking are all mapped out using that logic.

In our industry, we wrote 35 random blog posts whenever inspiration struck over the course of a year, and our monthly organic traffic hovered around 250. Then we identified just 10 topics with proven search volume and wrote SEO-optimized guides for them. By month six, our blog traffic hit 5,400 unique visits a month, and we started getting 3-4 direct RFQs every week.

Most SEO content turned out by agencies is pure AI-generated slop with zero depth, just repeating keywords over and over. A restaurant owner looking to buy commercial kitchen gear will bounce off your site the second they see that hollow fluff.

Three critical elements turn a plain blog post into SEO content: 1) Targeting keywords with verified search volume, 2) A clear heading hierarchy that helps search engine crawlers parse the page, 3) An internal linking structure that guides the reader toward relevant product pages.

When pitching this 24,000 TL proposal, did the agency provide an analysis showing the target keyword list and projected traffic growth? What's the word count per article and do you get revision rights?

Don't delete your existing posts or assume they went to waste. If you sign with the agency they can optimize those valuable articles you wrote over the past year by updating the headings and sub-keywords based on search trends. Content optimization often delivers results way faster than starting from scratch.

The most overlooked point about what is seo content is this: Map listings bring more business than blog posts for most local businesses.

Any unwritten clause becomes a point of disagreement later, as both sides remember it differently. Hope this helps.

Thanks, that was the answer I was looking for. Speed is a threshold issue; if you're already fast, making it faster changes nothing.

I have no experience with what is seo content, so I'm asking. Updating an existing page yields faster results than creating a new one.

If I were you, I'd go this route.

I went through the same thing two years ago. Discussing numbers without verifying the measurement setup is a waste of time.

Proven by experience.

Thanks for writing this, that's the right way. A page that answers one question works better than one touching on five topics.

If you post the result here, it will help others too.

Absolutely. If I were to add anything: When making a decision, first look at what data you have on hand.

I went through the same thing. If you get three different answers on a topic, the question was asked wrong.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

This is exactly what we experienced. Merge instead of deleting; deleted content doesn't come back.

A competitor's ranking might come from years of accumulation, not just their content.
