We spend on ads but can't see where sales come from, is end-to-end analytics a must?

We're a workshop in Moscow producing custom office furniture and architectural millwork. We run search engine ads and social media campaigns with an average monthly budget of 280,000 rubles. Every day we get contact forms from our website, direct phone calls, and people asking for catalogs via messaging apps.

At the end of the month, looking at the books, our turnover is around 1,400,000 rubles, but we can't pinpoint which order came from which ad campaign or keyword. A customer visits the site on Monday, texts us on WhatsApp on Thursday, and the following week comes to the workshop to sign a contract. Our digital marketing agency told us we need to set up an end-to-end analytics infrastructure. They quoted 150,000 rubles for a one-time setup and a monthly software subscription of 55,000 rubles.

What exactly does this end-to-end analytics do? For a mid-sized manufacturing business like ours that closes 40-50 orders a month, is such a high software expense really necessary, or is it just an expensive whim the agency is trying to sell us?

Short answer: End-to-end analytics is an integrated data system that connects ad clicks, website visits, phone calls messages and the final payment in the CRM under a single customer ID. It shows you down to the kopeck how much profit each campaign or keyword actually brought in; however, at your current order volume, investing in software at this level is pure overkill.

The logic is simple: When a user visits your website, a unique session ID is assigned in the background. When they fill out a form or call the dedicated tracking number this ID is passed into the new lead card in your CRM. Weeks later, when your sales rep signs the contract at the workshop and enters 100,000 rubles into the system, the platform retrospectively attributes that revenue to the original search ad click.

The issue is that for a business spending 280,000 rubles on ads and closing 40-50 orders a month, dropping 55,000 rubles just on analytics software is basically throwing a fifth of your ad budget down the drain. End-to-end analytics platforms only make sense for e-commerce systems processing hundreds of orders a day where manual tracking is impossible.

For your scale, here's the practical approach: 1) Add UTM parameters as hidden fields on website contact forms and pass them straight into the CRM card. 2) Use a basic static or simple dynamic call-tracking number for inbound calls. 3) Make it a strict rule for your sales reps to check these ad tags on every incoming lead and enter the closed deal revenue into the CRM. With zero extra software cost, you'll clearly see the source of at least 80 percent of your sales.

We're a door manufacturer of similar size, had a 300,000 rubles ad budget. Our agency hyped us up and we signed up for that exact end-to-end analytics subscription. We paid 330,000 rubles for the software over six months. For 35 sales a month, the data didn't tell us a single thing our manual spreadsheet wasn't already showing. Cancelled it immediately.

Just get a simple integration built between your website forms and CRM. A decent freelance dev can write the code to push campaign source tags from the form into your CRM for a one-off 15,000 rubles. Don't fall into that 55,000 rubles monthly subscription trap.

Do your workshop sales reps or order managers actually use your current CRM properly every single day? End-to-end analytics isn't magic; if staff don't log contract values on time, that 55,000 rubles software will just spit out empty charts.

Agencies push end-to-end analytics purely to pad their own margins. They get affiliate kickbacks from the software vendor and bill you separately for setup. Pitching this system to a business with a 280,000 rubles budget is flat-out unethical.

Considering your transaction volume and advertising budget, enterprise-tier licensed analytics platforms will not yield cost efficiency. Basic web analytics tools paired with a straightforward CRM integration should be deemed sufficient for operational tracking.

If a customer checks out the site and dials the phone number directly on their keypad how does the system know which ad they came from? anyway how do you link a regular phone call to a web session?

When dynamic call tracking is used, every website visitor is shown a different temporary phone number. When the user dials that number, the PBX matches with the analytics software, and the UTM parameters from the user's web session are logged onto the call record.

dont you dare pay that kind of money for 50 orders a month. anyway just put a hidden field on the lead form so it logs the campaign into the crm and call it a day the rest is just agency nonsense.

I agree. Any unwritten clause becomes a point of disagreement later, as both sides remember it differently.

I disagree with you on this point. Internal linking is the cheapest and most neglected task.

I feel the same way. Map listings bring more business than blog posts for most local businesses.

I'm a small business, let me explain from my side. A page with low traffic might be reaching the right people. Look at where sales come from.

The biggest time-waster for us was not knowing who had the final say. Proven by experience.

If youre going this route sort this out first. btw updating an existing page yields faster results than creating a new one.

This is my opinion, I'm not claiming it's absolute truth.

The discussion got scattered, let me summarize. Everything goes well for the first three months; problems arise in the fourth.

Hope this helps.

Let me summarize the topic, since several different answers were given. Merge instead of deleting; deleted content doesn't come back.

Of course, it varies if your situation is different.
