Snapchat ad costs are confusing — how do I calculate the real cost before starting on a small budget?

We're a local home textile and decor retail business in Riyadh with two branches, and we launched our e-commerce site last month. Everyone keeps saying Snapchat engagement is massive in the Saudi market, so we want to hop on the platform to reach the local audience. But the budget setups in the ad manager and what agencies are telling us don't match at all.

I talked to a few local digital marketers; one told me you can't get any results without spending at least 100 SAR a day, while another quoted a monthly media budget of 3,000 SAR for testing, plus an extra 2,500 SAR management fee on top. It's completely unclear what determines the cost-per-click and CPM rates.

How exactly are Snapchat ad costs calculated for a small, early-stage business like ours? Taking ad spend, creative production, and agency cuts into account, what is the actual bottom-line cost that'll come out of our pocket by the end of the month?

Short answer: The true monthly cost of Snapchat ads isn't just what you deposit into the ad manager; it consists of three core components: media spend, vertical video production, and management overhead. In the Gulf market, an ad spend baseline of at least 80-100 SAR per day and at least two fresh vertical video assets per week are essential for the algorithm to locate the right audience.

Platform costs are determined by auction. Across Saudi Arabia, CPMs for Story and Spotlight formats generally run between 7 and 15 SAR, depending on the niche. Swipe-up or cost-per-click rates typically land between 0.30 and 0.90 SAR, largely hinging on how native and organic the creative feels. If you narrow your targeting excessively or limit it strictly to a competitive region like Riyadh, these unit costs will climb.

When putting together an actual budget, if you've earmarked 3,000 SAR for media spend, you need to factor in the production cost of at least 2-3 smartphone-shot vertical videos per week. Instead of shelling out steep retainer fees to agencies right out of the gate, allocating your first month's budget directly toward content quality and platform testing will keep costs manageable. Make sure to also factor in the 15% VAT requirement in Saudi Arabia directly on top of your media invoice.

We're in women's apparel in Riyadh. Last quarter we spent 4,000 SAR a month on media. Our average CPM was 9.5 SAR, and our cost per swipe-up was 0.38 SAR. But whenever we left the same video running for more than two weeks, the click cost shot straight up to the 0.80 SAR range.

Instead of throwing 2,500 SAR at an agency, put that budget into the ad manager and run it yourself for the first two months. The ad manager isn't rocket science; pick Story placement via Advanced Create, upload raw product videos shot right on your phone in the shop, and cap the daily budget at 80 SAR.

Snapchat brings insane traffic in Saudi Arabia, but cart abandonment is just as brutal. You might snag clicks at 0.40 SAR but if your site lacks local payment gateways and fast shipping promises, that 3,000 SAR spend will vanish into thin air in a matter of days.

Your real cost breakdown for the first month looks like this: 1) Monthly platform ad spend between 2,500 and 3,000 SAR, 2) The 15% VAT added to the platform invoice, 3) Production of at least two new vertical video assets weekly, 4) A one-time technical setup fee, if needed, to configure pixel events.

do not make the videos look like polished corporate commercials... btw just grab the fabrics in your shop and talk through them casually in arabic on your phone, in the riyadh market that gets you clicks way cheaper than anything an agency produces.

Does your store offer same-day or next-day delivery via a local courier? Because Gulf users on Snapchat are pure impulse buyers; if shipping takes too long, your cancellations and return rates will wipe out your ad returns entirely.

When running digital marketing campaigns in Saudi Arabia, advertising licenses and tax regulations must be strictly observed. Adding the applicable local tax rate directly to your billed media costs will help prevent unexpected budget variances.

The smartest move starting out is dropping the agency fee entirely and kicking things off with a 3,000 SAR media budget paired with organic-looking vertical videos.

I partly agree, partly disagree. Just because everyone does it doesn't mean it's right.

The cheap-looking path usually ends up costing more later. Speed is a threshold issue; if you're already fast, making it faster changes nothing.

If I were you I'd go this route.

i'd say don't rush and honestly hastty decisions become decisions you have to fix six months later.

when we decide without measuring we always end up in the same place.

We need to take it step by step. like the answer varies greatly by industry; there is no one-size-fits-all rule.

Great work. Ranking is the result, search intent is the input. Look at intent first.

Just because everyone does it doesn't mean it's right. If you have questions, write them; I'll answer as best I can.

I've been down this road, let me tell you. Processes without records never improve, because you don't know what to fix.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Let me summarize what's been said so far. Solutions that work at a small scale collapse when you grow; I learned this late.

If you post the result here, it will help others too.
