What is an SEO article, and is it worth paying for an agency's monthly content package?

I run a small shop and e-commerce site selling local handmade ceramics and home decor products in Northern Italy. Last week, a local digital agency reached out offering to write 10 "SEO-friendly articles" per month for a monthly budget of 600 EUR. They want at least a six-month contract, so it's a total commitment of roughly 3,600 EUR.

During our meeting, they kept talking about search volume, keyword density, and ranking at the top of Google. But looking at the samples they provided, the texts felt completely unnatural and repetitive, as if they were written for algorithms rather than human readers.

Honestly, what is an SEO article actually supposed to achieve, how does it differ from a regular blog post, and does it genuinely drive sales in a visually driven niche like ceramics? Does it make sense to invest this budget into a content package?

Short answer: An SEO article is strategic content designed to answer the specific terms users search for on search engines, aiming to drive organic traffic to your site. However, generic copy stuffed with keywords won't directly generate sales; a solid content package must include a clear path to purchase that guides visitors toward product pages.

While a standard blog post usually shares brand announcements or general thoughts, an SEO article targets search intent. For instance, it targets users looking up queries like "how to clean ceramic vases" or "firing temperatures for handmade pottery." The role of these articles is to establish your shop as a trusted authority in that space and direct readers straight to the relevant product collection.

Be cautious with the package they offered. At 600 EUR for 10 pieces (60 EUR per post), it is unlikely the agency will thoroughly research your niche, include original photography, or bring genuine expertise to the table. Most agencies charging those rates simply run light edits on AI output and upload it to your site. That kind of mechanical copy fails to rank under modern search algorithms and ends up hurting your brand's reputation.

My suggestion is that instead of 10 shallow posts a month, use that same budget to ask for 2 or 3 extremely thorough guides. Make sure the contract requires contextual product links, care manuals, and direct purchase buttons embedded within the content.

Modern search engine updates no longer reward keyword density; they prioritize signals of firsthand experience and expertise. Time on site, bounce rate, and whether the user actually found the answer they needed are the real ranking factors. Robotic copy actively drags those metrics down.

We tried a similar 8-post monthly package for our boutique furniture site last year. We spent 3,200 EUR over six months. Organic traffic increased, but the conversion rate sat at 0.2%; we didn't even recoup half of what we spent in revenue.

For an SEO article to drive actual sales, it must have three things: 1) Clear product callouts placed under informative subheadings, 2) Authentic photos from your own workshop, 3) Practical advice that genuinely solves the reader's problem. Without these, it just takes up space on your server.

Instead of spending 600 EUR a month on 10 articles put that money into local social media and search ads—you'll see walk-ins that same week. Organic content takes at least a year and a half to show results, and cash flow is far more urgent for a small business.

In a niche this visual written copy wont work on its own... People dont buy ceramics to read about them; they buy them to see the texture and colors. If they arent including short process videos or detailed product photos in the posts, dont bother.

what agencies call content packages is usually just cookie-cutter templates. honestly made the same mistake myself had 40 articles written and didn't sell a single vase... imo keep your budget for now and just write one solid guide a month yourself, it'll work much better.

How did the agency base their keyword research for these 10 articles? Are they targeting informational search intent (like the history of ceramics) or transactional intent (like ceramic mug gifts)? Did you ask them about this distinction?

I can't fully agree with this. Any unwritten clause becomes a point of disagreement later as both sides remember it differently.

The answer above hits the nail on the head. Taking notes for two weeks yields better results than a six-month estimate.

Hope this helps.

We got stuck at the same point for a while. Speed is a threshold issue; if you're already fast, making it faster changes nothing.

I'm also curious if anyone does it differently.

Three different views emerged they all complement each other. If you don't write this down from the start, it leads to arguments later.

I don't think this advice fits everyone... Mistakes made on the what is an seo article side are usually reversible but expensive.

If you post the result here it will help others too.

Exactly, and not many people know this. Discussing numbers without verifying the measurement setup is a waste of time.

The real issue isn't the number, but what it's based on. If you post the result here, it will help others too.

I agree with this. Don't trust anyone who gives guarantees; there are no guarantees in this business.

Hope this helps.
