I'm using ChatGPT to write blog posts, but does it actually work for SEO?

We are a mid-sized manufacturing plant in Istanbul producing industrial packaging, corrugated cardboard and custom boxes. About three months ago we launched a corporate blog to drive organic B2B leads to our website. I mapped out topics with industry search demand; for example, I consistently produced 4 articles a week on subjects like 'how to choose export shipping boxes' 'moisture barrier packaging specifications' and 'calculating box dimensions'.

I generated all the content using ChatGPT. For my prompts I provided the target topic, subheadings and requested a professional corporate tone. Reading through the drafts, the flow was great, the Turkish grammar was flawless and the articles seemed genuinely informative. btw i organized the sections with proper h2 and h3 tags and published 52 blog posts in total.

Despite three full months passing, our total organic search traffic hasn't even hit 40 visitors. Looking at Search Console most of the content is indexed, but rankings are stuck past position 60 or 70. I mean if the posts are well-written and thorough what am I doing wrong? When using AI for SEO content where exactly does the human touch need to step in during prompting and post-generation to actually rank and drive traffic?

Short answer: Search engines don't rank content just because it reads smoothly; they penalize it when it merely rehashes what is already across the web without introducing new data or an original perspective. Unless you incorporate hands-on industry expertise, practical sizing charts, and real-world application scenarios, you won't rank even if you publish hundreds of articles.

The core reason you're hitting a wall is lack of information gain. When someone searches 'how to choose export shipping boxes', ChatGPT will spit out five generic paragraphs: 'pick quality materials, verify dimensions, protect against humidity'. But a B2B procurement buyer actually needs container stacking standards, bursting strength differences between single-wall and double-wall corrugated board, and specific paper weight tables. An AI simply cannot provide that practical, boots-on-the-ground technical data by itself.

Follow these steps to fix your process: 1) Change your prompting logic: Instead of having AI write from scratch, feed it your company's actual engineering or field notes. For example, prompt it like: 'Here are the results of the box drop tests we conducted at our plant. Using this data, draft a guide that explains bursting strength tests when choosing export packaging.' 2) Strip out the AI clichés from the intros and conclusions: Ditch meaningless openers like 'In today's world, packaging plays a crucial role' and deliver the solution right in the first two sentences. 3) Add real photos and tables: Instead of stock photos, embed actual snapshots of box-cutting details from your shop floor, the readout screen of your bursting test equipment, and a clear calculation formula. Once you edit with that level of depth, search engines will easily separate your page from generic copies.

You fell into AI's speed trap by pushing out 4 posts a week. If you had just published 2 solid case studies a month in the B2B packaging space highlighting your plant's technical edge, you would have gotten at least 5-10 enterprise RFQs by now. Search engines are quick to filter out mass-produced fluff.

Did you use real customer questions from your industry when prompting the posts? For instance, did you pull the top 10 technical questions your sales team answers over the phone and use them as subheadings or did you just roll with whatever headings the tool came up with?

A human touch is essential in content creation on three counts: 1) Pinpointing search intent—distinguishing whether the user wants to buy or just wants info, 2) Enriching the output with industry jargon and current raw material prices that AI simply doesn't know, 3) Pruning generic, fluff adjectives to put the direct answer front and center.

Correction: I misremembered the figure, it was a bit lower.

We made the exact same mistake on our own industrial site. 60 raw AI posts brought in barely 80 clicks a month. Then we deleted 40 of them and enriched the remaining 20 with test data and technical schematics straight from our own workshop. By the end of the fourth month, monthly organic clicks from those 20 articles skyrocketed to 1,400.

Expecting search engines to eagerly rank 52 articles that all kick off with 'Packaging is a critical element for businesses' was way too optimistic. The moment a B2B buyer reads that, they'll doubt your factory's credibility.

Open Search Console and identify your top 5 posts by impressions. Slap a clear box weight calculation table right at the top of each one trash the AI-generated intro paragraphs, and update them within two days. Watch your rankings jump a month from now.

chatgpt is great with general knowledge, but it can't explain the difference between b-flute and c-flute corrugated cardboard like a tech on the shop floor can and feed your actual technical specs into the prompt before generating anything otherwise you'll just end up with the same shallow piece as everyone else.

My perspective changed after experiencing that. Everything goes well for the first three months; problems arise in the fourth.

Of course, it varies if your situation is different.

You're right, I've been down that road too. Any unwritten clause becomes a point of disagreement later as both sides remember it differently.

The cheap-looking path usually ends up costing more later. If rankings stay the same but clicks drop, the issue isn't your page, but the search result appearance.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

We got stuck at the same point for a while. People defend habits, not processes. Resistance comes from there.

Solutions that work at a small scale collapse when you grow; I learned this late. Hope this helps.

It's rare to find an explanation this clear. Trying to do this alone is the most expensive way.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

i have a question then i mean don't hesitate to ask; those who don't ask always pay more.

this is my opinion, I'm not claiming it's absolute truth.

Following. Ranking is the result, search intent is the input. Look at intent first.
