One agency quoted 8k for a website, another 80k — how are prices determined?

Our company decided to get a new website. I asked three agencies for quotes. The first one was 8,000 TL, the second 35,000, and the third 80,000. They all call it a 'website' but the prices are wildly different.

What I asked for: 10 pages, simple design, responsive (mobile-friendly). They all said they could do it, so why is there a 10x price difference? The cheap agency said they use 'templates', the mid-range one says 'custom design'.

I also want social media integration. One says it's 'free', the other says '+5k extra'. As someone who doesn't know computers, how am I supposed to decide?

Website pricing depends on four tiers: 1) Template use (5-15k), 2) Custom design (20-50k), 3) Brand + UX (50k+), 4) Custom development (100k+).

In your case (10 pages, simple, responsive) = template + light custom = 15-25k is reasonable. The 80k quote probably includes custom branding, SEO strategy, and monthly support.

Checkpoint: review the quote, see what's included: number of design revisions, mobile testing, hosting choice, domain, maintenance service.

Price difference: 8k = WordPress template, 35k = custom design + dev, 80k = SEO + brand strategy + yearly maintenance.

Pick the mid-range price but make sure 'revision rights' are clearly written in the contract. Choose the one where social media integration is 'free'.

What's the real difference between a template and custom design? Can both be made responsive?

website prie = designer hours + developer hours + manager profit margin... anyway cheap agency works for 1 month, expensive one for 2 weeks.

There are sites that compare website prices (WebsiteBuilderExpert). Use them as a reference to compare which firm is cheap/good.

Thanks for posting. Implementing a change request process doesn't slow things down, it speeds them up.

If it's your first time, start small; scaling comes later. If you have questions, write them; I'll answer as best I can.

Let me clarify the technical side. Any unwritten clause becomes a point of disagreement later, as both sides remember it differently.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

I feel the same way. When making decisions, write down the worst-case scenario too, not just the best.

Weekly written progress reports are much more useful than asking for dates. Good luck with that.

My question might sound amateurish, sorry about that. Just because everyone does it doesn't mean it's right.

If it's your first time, start small; scaling comes later. Hope this helps.

We experienced almost the exact same thing last year. Solutions that work at a small scale collapse when you grow; I learned this late.

Three different views emerged, they all complement each other. Trying to do this alone is the most expensive way.

Correct me if Im wrong.

We've heard this a lot, but it never happened like that for us. Processes without records never improve, because you don't know what to fix.

This is my opinion, I'm not claiming it's absolute truth.

people defend habits not processes. i mean resistance comes from there.

I agree with this... If you don't write this down from the start it leads to arguments later.

Thats all, sorry if I went on too long.

We need to make a distinction here. Code without setup documentation isn't yours even if you have it.

Payment schedules should be tied to project phases, not calendar dates. This is my opinion, I'm not claiming it's absolute truth.
