my accountant forgot part of the tax, filed an incomplete return. The penalty came to 80k. The accountant said 'I didn't know.'

The accountant is actually liable. There should be an insurance or agreement: like 'penalties arising from accountant errors covered by client insurance.'

The most overlooked point about got hit with a tax penalty is this: If you get three different answers on a topic, the question was asked wrong.

If you don't write this down from the start, it leads to arguments later. I'm also curious if anyone does it differently.

That's all, sorry if I went on too long.

Do you think this works at any scale? Solutions that work at a small scale collapse when you grow; I learned this late.

Pausing growth to breathe is also a strategy, nobody says that. If you post the result here, it will help others too.

let me write how its done in practice. people defend habits, not processes. resistance comes from there.

of course, it varies if your situation is different.

Here's how it went for us. Mistakes made on the got hit with a tax penalty side are usually reversible but expensive.

If its your first time, start small; scaling comes later. This is my opinion Im not claiming its absolute truth.

There's a common mistake people make when doing this. Cutting your own salary is a temporary tactic; if it lasts more than six months something will break.

If you get three different answers on a topic the question was asked wrong... Proven by experience.

we need to take it step by step... mistaking revenue for cash is the most expensie illusion; trust the bank account.

of course it varies if your situaiton is different.

We need to take it step by step. If you get three different answers on a topic the question was asked wrong.

Taking notes for two weeks yields better results than a six-month estimate. Correct me if Im wrong.

Could you elaborate on that? The moment you depend on a single client you no longer set the price.

Processes without records never improve, because you don't know what to fix. This is my opinion, I'm not claiming it's absolute truth.

I was thinking the same thing. Taking notes for two weeks yields better results than a six-month estimate.

Start with a small trial; don't commit to everything at once.

let me clarify the technical side and anyway the moment you depend on a single client, you no longer set the price.

if you have questions write them; I'll answer as best I can.

I have a question, don't want to go off-topic though. If you get three different answers on a topic, the question was asked wrong.

When making decisions, write down the worst-case scenario too, not just the best. This is my opinion, I'm not claiming it's absolute truth.

Let me summarize the topic, since several different answers were given. Hasty decisions become decisions you have to fix six months later.

Hope this helps.

Yes, that's exactly how it is with got hit with a tax penalty. The reason for failure isn't one big mistake, but the accumulation of small decisions.

I'm also curious if anyone does it differently.

My perspective changed after experiencing that. Solutions that work at a small scale collapse when you grow; I learned this late.

The harder it is to reverse a decision, the slower you should make it. If I were you, I'd go this route.

I felt relieved reading this answer so it's not just me. If the gap between accounts receivable and accounts payable turnover days is widening revenue won't save you.

That's all sorry if I went on too long.
