we have 100+ product pages, all with 2-3 line descriptions. honestly competitors are writing almost 500+ word descriptions... do we need to lengthen ours too? but if we write 5 paragraphs of product details customers won't read it — we need to shorten it, but won't that hurt SEO?

second question: where do you write the meta title and description? i can't see it directly in an e-commerce platform. do i need a plugin? and should the title say 'product name price, shipping' or 'best X product'?

my competitor writes 'Mens T-shirt Black S-XXL Shirt Cotton' in the product title while i just wrote 'Mens T-shirt'... does having long titles affect ranking?

product page description: 200-400 words is ideal. not too short/long, flowing and relevant. don't write long text just because people don't read, but if you write less than 150 words, SEO suffers.

meta title: 50-60 characters. main keyword + brand in the title. example: 'Men's Black Cotton T-shirt | BrandName' (adding branding doesn't hurt SEO). description: 150-160 characters, write the 2 most important features.

use a plugin in an e-commerce platform (Yoast SEO is free, Rank Math is free). manually editing meta won't be hard but the plugin optimizes directly, it's recommended.

long title vs short title: title length doesn't directly affect SEO but it affects relevance. so the 'S-XXL' size info in 'Men's T-shirt Black Cotton S-XXL' is important if customers are searching for it. for SEO 'Men's black cotton t-shirt' is enough, but the 'S-XXL' info increases conversion rate.

on our e-commerce site products with 200-300 word descriptions rank 2-3 times better than those with 50-100 words... mybe they impacted ranking because customers didn't read them, idk but the data shows it.

i noticed something with meta title and description: the shorter the words in the title the higher the chance of ranking... so 'Men's' vs 'Men's T-shirt Blacck S-XXL' — the first is shorter, but specificity decreases... balance is needed.

use a plugin no time to optimize manually and yoast or rank math gives the best advice according to google. set meta title manually or let the plugin do it automatically.

product page SEO metrics: Title Tag — most important, must contain keyword. Meta Description — affects click-through rate, 155 characters is ideal. Heading (H1) — make it the product name. Product Schema (Structured Data) — show price, rating, availability to Google.

Product: 2-line description. SEO: write 500 words. Customer: why did i read this, wasted 2 mins... Moral: write the description for customer+SEO, not for bots. btw 300 words, two paragraphs, right words.

meta title: 50-60 chars, keyword at the start. description: 150 chars, best feature. body: 200-400 words, natural flow. use a plugin, don't waste time doing it manually.

Correct in theory but it doesnt work that way in practice. like a competitors ranking might come from years of accumulation not just their content.

I completely agree. If you don't write this down from the start, it leads to arguments later.

Hope this helps.

It's rare to find an explanation this clear.

i have an objection here. most time waste accumulates in tasks waiting for approval.

that's all, sorry if I went on too long.

I have no experience with e-commerce product page seo, so I'm asking. People defend habits, not processes. Resistance comes from there.

This is my opinion, I'm not claiming it's absolute truth.

There's a trap here, let me mention it. The real issue isn't the number, but what it's based on.

My perspective changed after experiencing that. Taking notes for two weeks yields better results than a six-month estimate.

Don't trust anyone who gives guarantees; there are no guarantees in this business. I'm also curious if anyone does it differently.

I don't think this advice fits everyone. Don't hesitate to ask; those who don't ask always pay more.

Three different views emerged, they all complement each other. Mistakes made on the e-commerce product page seo side are usually reversible but expensive.

That's all, sorry if I went on too long.

I felt relieved reading this answer, so it's not just me. Updating an existing page yields faster results than creating a new one.

Proven by experience.
