There are a thousand products. The manufacturer provided the description text. Are we just gonna copy-paste on the site? Is this a problem for Google?
If other e-commerce sites use the same manufacturer text, will ours be considered duplicate too?

If the product description is provided by the manufacturer and other sites use it too, Google might see this as canonical duplicate. If it's 70-80%+ similar, there's a risk of ranking drops.
Solution: 1) Write a unique description (use the manufacturer's text as a base, rewrite it). 2) Make it SEO-optimized (add keywords, long-tail). 3) Focus on user benefits (advantages, use cases, etc.). 4) Or original text + custom section (add your advice, reviews, etc.). 5) Use a canonical tag pointing to the main page if you're an authorized distributor.
i have 1000 products too cant write descriptions for all of them. then i added original text + custom comparison table + review section — and suddenly google saw them as unique product pages.
don't copy manufacturer text. rewrite in your own words or add unique sections (reviews, benefits). btw google won't call it duplicate then.
Product Description Strategy: 1. Authorized reseller? → Canonical tag (to main site) 2. Unique seller → rewrite (30-50% original, 50-70% custom) 3. Add custom sections: comparison, review, benefit 4. SEO-optimize: long-tail keywords 5. Discard original text, write new copy
Duplicate content status: if it's 70%+ similar, Google picks a canonical or gives low ranking. Unique content (starting at 30-50%) can break the duplicate window.
Quick fix: 1) Get original description. 2) Rewrite in your own words (50% custom). 3) Add long-tail keywords (region, advantage, use case). 4) Add comparison table or review section. 5) Get unique page status.
I'm a small business, let me explain from my side. The biggest time-waster for us was not knowing who had the final say.
Just because everyone does it doesn't mean it's right. Of course, it varies if your situation is different.
Let me speak from the other side; I'm on the supplier side. If you get three different answers on a topic, the question was asked wrong.
Speed is a threshold issue; if you're already fast, making it faster changes nothing.

I have no experience with product description duplicate content, so I'm asking. Internal linking is the cheapest and most neglected task.
Processes without records never improve, because you don't know what to fix. Just leaving this note, it might be useful.
Thanks a lot, I'll try it today. If rankings stay the same but clicks drop the issue isn't your page, but the search result appearance.
Don't trust anyone who gives guarantees; there are no guarantees in this business. Hope this helps.
Three different views emerged, they all complement each other. Discussing numbers without verifying the measurement setup is a waste of time.
Hope this helps.
Thanks, that was the answer I was looking for. Hasty decisions become decisions you have to fix six months later.
I'm also curious if anyone does it differently.
The cheap-looking path usually ends up costing more later. If rankings stay the same but clicks drop, the issue isn't your page, but the search result appearance.
Solutions that work at a small scale collapse when you grow; I learned this late. Hope this helps.
