I charge 500 TL for monthly gym membership, competitor offers it for 300 — should I lower the price, or is something else missing?

i opened a gym in istanbul, but in a neighborhood that isn't really taking off. still i have 180 active members. i charge 500 TL for unlimited access. the competitor charges 300 TL and has 300+ members. why am i losing?

my value proposition: 3 fitness trainers, hot sauna, instructor doing zumba twice a week new equipment, clean floors. competitor has no trainers 5-year-old equipment, no sauna, no instructor. but they charge 300 TL. why am i losing, seriously?

sign-ups dropped, retention rate dropped. 50 old members left in the last 3 months, 30 new ones joined. net -20. if i drop the price to 350, what happens? does the loss stop, or is there another issue? is it the price or the location?

Stats: Hiring staff increases costs by 40%, but output can increase by 60%. Net: +20%.

If you want to succeed you gotta love the hard part of the job. Don't be sad, learn.

Edit: asked below, I wrote the answer in the second message.

Management perspective: Measure capacity measure demand, if there's a gap, find a partner or hire staff.

Quick: measure capacity (how many per day) calculate costs, raise price. Done.

Procedure: First, create a written policy. Get customers to sign it. Then enforce it.

Trying to solve it with words is impossible. Go do it fail, learn. That's the way.

yes, thats exactly how it is with gym memership pricing.. but measure first then divide. when the order is right the debate ends.

when making decisions write down the worst-case scenaroi too, not just the best. just leaving this note, it might be useful.

How did you solve this? A two-week notebook guides you more than a six-month forecast.

This is my opinion, I'm not claiming it's absolute truth.

Could you elaborate on that? If you don't write this down from the start, it leads to arguments later.

If you don't write this down from the start, it leads to arguments later. That's all, sorry if I went on too long.

Don't miss this: If you don't write this down from the start, it leads to arguments later.

The real issue isn't the number, but what it's based on. Of course, it varies if your situation is different.

I went through the same thing. Calculate how many months you can survive without revenue, then halve that number.

Splitting your budget without knowing where you're losing users is just throwing money in the dark. I'm also curious if anyone does it differently.

exactly, and not many people know this but mistakes made on the gym membership pricing side are usually reversible but expensive.

when you try to change everything at once, nothing settles but im also curious if anyone does it differently.

Three different views emerged, they all complement each other. If you get three different answers on a topic, the question was asked wrong.

Just leaving this note, it might be useful.

Same here. Processes without records never improve, because you don't know what to fix.

Hope this helps.

I'll argue the opposite, don't get mad. When making a decision, first look at what data you have on hand.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

There's also a measurement aspect to this. Finding a new customer is more expensive than keeping an existing one.

Splitting your budget without knowing where you're losing users is just throwing money in the dark. like correct me if I'm wrong.
