if my homeware item costs me 50 TL, i sell it for 120 TL, but the customer says 'it's 70 TL on an e-commerce platform' — should i change my margin?

i sell homeware in bodrum. i buy stuff from my supplier for 50 TL and sell it for 120 TL. my wife says 70 TL. but a customer came in and said 'bro, i saw it for 70 TL online, why are u charging 120?' i was like 'man i have rent electricity taxes...' and the customer left.

i've been working with this margin for 20 years it's normal. but 5 years ago when online shops started popping up margins collapsed. should i drop to 100 TL now or just quit this business?

procedure: first, create a written policy. have the customer sign it. then enforce it.

these questions are always the same: make a decision, do it, either succeed or fail.

edit: fixed a few typos.

business view: if demand > capacity, we can do two things: 1) raise prices. 2) increase capacity.

if customer satisfaction is priority, u might find customers willing to pay a bit more. but it takes patience.

My perspective changed after experiencing that. Solutions that work at a small scale collapse when you grow; I learned this late.

If you post the result here, it will help others too.

Let me summarize what's been said so far. Splitting your budget without knowing where you're losing users is just throwing money in the dark.

That's all, sorry if I went on too long.

I completely agree. Trying to do this alone is the most expensive way.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

I've been dealing with this for a long time. Most time waste accumulates in tasks waiting for approval.

Thanks, that was the answer I was looking for. The real issue isn't the number, but what it's based on.

When we decide without measuring, we always end up in the same place. Good luck with that.

I disagree with you on this point. Solutions that work at a small scale collapse when you grow; I learned this late.

This is my opinion, I'm not claiming it's absolute truth.

You're right. The biggest time-waster for us was not knowing who had the final say.

If I were you, I'd go this route.

Let me summarize what's been said so far. Changing habits is harder and more expensive than setting up a system.

Most time waste accumulates in tasks waiting for approval. I'm also curious if anyone does it differently.

i disagree with you on this point and btw look where the bucket leaks; pourring water on top doesn't solve it.

hasty decisions become decisions you have to fix six months later.. but if you post the result here, it will help others too.

I went through the same thing. Look where the bucket leaks; pouring water on top doesn't solve it.

Hope this helps.
