Organic social media got us 50k followers over a long time. We didn't spend any money, just consistent posting and engagement. We became known in the sector. But the problem: monetizing followers is very hard.

When we posted affiliate links they weren't clicked, sales conversion was under 1%. We tried selling products, still low sales. I thought about running ads, but the power of social media is that organic followers should be more valuable than ad spend.

I hired a consultant for two months, we changed the content strategy. I added CTAs in Stories started a Newsletter, made short video reels. Conversion increased a bit but is still not high. I learned the lesson that follower count != money. Follower quality, engagement and conversion turned out to be more important.

Very common issue: gaining organic followers feels like success, but sales = success. Think about follower quality. Converting 5k real customers is more valuable than 50k bot followers.

Advice: 1- Do an audience analysis (who follows you, where they come from), 2- Make your CTA clear (tell them what you want instead of just dropping a link), 3- Keep a newsletter (email list), 4- Sell your own product instead of affiliate marketing (higher margin), 5- Set up a conversion funnel.

edit: typed from phone, sorry for typos.

i had the same complaint bro. dont get cocky just because you have 100k followers, monetizing is super hard. then i switched products, selling my own stuff worked better. but it was really tough at the start

Social media monetization models: 1- Affiliate (very low conversion), 2- Sponsorship (brands pay), 3- Selling your own product, 4- Consulting (courses, coaching), 5- Ads (ad network). You're stuck in affiliate. Switch to product, it'll be better.

To increase conversion: 1- Optimize your landing page (simple, clear CTA), 2- Keep an email list (independent of social media), 3- Sell your own product (high margin), 4- Do bundle marketing, 5- Limited time offer (urgency), 6- Retargeting ads (reach people outside social media)

I'm curious: out of those 50k followers, how many have customer potential? For example, 1% conversion on a survey = 500 customers. Can you see why you're not getting traction?

Bro, getting 50K organically is a solid achievement! Monetization is hard but since you noticed the difference after hiring a consultant you're very close. Give it a bit more time, change your strategy, you'll succeed!

I'll argue the opposite, don't get mad. The reason for failure isn't one big mistake, but the accumulation of small decisions.

Just leaving this note, it might be useful.

If you're going this route sort this out first. People defend habits, not processes. Resistance comes from there.

Taking notes for two weeks yields better results than a six-month estimate. If you have questions, write them; I'll answer as best I can.

We got stuck at the same point for a while. When we decide without measuring, we always end up in the same place.

Mistaking revenue for cash is the most expensive illusion; trust the bank account.

Noted, thanks. Solutions that work at a small scale collapse when you grow; I learned this late.

This is exactly what we experienced. Looking profitable on paper but having no cash in the bank is very common.

Hope this helps.

Yes, that's exactly how it is with growing on social media. The reason for failure isn't one big mistake, but the accumulation of small decisions.

Looking at it as a process, the picture changes. Second-time founders don't make the same mistakes but find new ones.

Let me summarize the topic, since several different answers were given. The reason for failure isn't one big mistake but the accumulation of small decisions.

Just leaving this note, it might be useful.
