Agency said 'revision rounds are over, we won't accept further requests' — do they have the right?

contract: 'two revision rounds included.' we finished the first round, it went well. in the second round i added other requests this time — text changes, image shifts, etc. the agency said 'rounds are over, anything after this is chargeable.'

but in the second round i listed requests we hadn't fully done as missing. for example 'this button doesn't open properly here, can you fix it?' — this isn't a new request, it's a bug fix. the agency says 'it's all the same thing,' but technically it's different.

it always gets messy. what is a revision, what is a bug, what is an 'extra request'? is a text change on a site a revision or an extra? is the agency right to ask for money, or should it be covered by the quote?

you need to separate them: 'revision' = design/layout change. 'bug' = something you did wrong that needs fixing (this doesn't count as a revision). 'extra request' = something new.

it should be written in the contract: 'revision rounds correspond to design changes. bug fixes and technical issues are not included in revision rounds.' this way the agency has to fix bugs for free.

if you reported a bug in the second round, that doesn't count as a revision. if you added another design request, that counts as a revision. these are two different things. send a written report to the agency: 'this is a bug not a revision, can you fix it quickly?'

mine was very similar too. in the end i bargained, i said 'either finish this round for free, or i'll give it to someone else.' the agency agreed and finished it.

when the agency says "rounds are over," they might just be stringing you along to charge extra fees. honestly, "2 revisions" is totally enough for a simple site. if you've got 100 requests in 3-4 weeks, that's not a revision issue, that's just how the project is structured.

send an email right away: "the following 3 items are technical issues and bugs, not revisions:" and make a list. the agency will see you're right and fix them for free.

maybe the agency is just in a rush to finish and move on (waiting for another project). easy solution: say "if you finish the remaining work from this round by Wednesday, I'll pay an extra fee." they usually speed up when money is involved.

i was stuck in the same situation, then i asked "does this count as a bug?" they said "yes, its a bug fix." so the issue stayed within the round and they continued... basically, ask seriously about the nature of the issue.

This is exactly what we experienced. If it's your first time, start small; scaling comes later.

If scope grows, either time or budget must grow. There is no third option. If you have questions, write them; I'll answer as best I can.

We need to take it step by step. Most time waste accumulates in tasks waiting for approval.

This is my opinion, I'm not claiming it's absolute truth.

I've been dealing with this for a long time. People defend habits, not processes. Resistance comes from there.

In legacy systems, the most expensive thing is unknown dependencies.

let me share my experience... if acceptance criteria aren't written when the work is done is open to debate.

I have an objection here. If acceptance criteria aren't written, when the work is done is open to debate.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Absolutely. If I were to add anything: If you dont write this down from the start it leads to arguments later.

I'll argue the opposite, don't get mad. Hasty decisions become decisions you have to fix six months later.

If I were you, I'd go this route.

I went through the same thing two years ago. The answer varies greatly by industry; there is no one-size-fits-all rule.

Of course, it varies if your situation is different.

Quick summary for newcomers: If you don't write this down from the start, it leads to arguments later.

When making decisions, write down the worst-case scenario too, not just the best. Just leaving this note it might be useful.

I think it's hard to be that definitive about they said revision rounds are over. The cheapest quote is usually the least thought-out one.

Good luck with that.

I've been dealing with this for a long time. Mistakes made on the they said revision rounds are over side are usually reversible but expensive.

The opposite happened to me, that's why I'm writing. Start with a small trial; don't commit to everything at once.
