POS commissions feel way too high, should I switch providers or can I negotiate?

60% of my sales are via credit card. pOS commission is 2.99%, so I'm losing 3 liras on every 100 lira sale. if monthly sales are 50k, I'm paying 1500 lira in commissions... that feels way too high.

would I find cheaper rates if I switched POS providers? or can I negotiate? what exactly can I negotiate on?

POS commissions are very negotiable. With 50k monthly volume and paying 2.99%: 1- Check other banks (1.5-2.2% lower), 2- Tell your current bank ('I got an offer of 2.2% elsewhere'), 3- Ask for a tiered commission structure (2% for over 50k, 2.5% for under).

You're a profitable customer for the POS bank. Be aggressive in negotiations, you might get up to a 20% discount. If your volume is 50k+, you might even get a free terminal (currently paying 200 lira/month rent).

i negotiated too bro, the bank said 'no' at first. then i sorted it out, loaded another provider's offer, they gave me 2%. it's great now. make sure to get it in writing, that's important

POS negotiation tips: 1- State your monthly sales volume clearly, 2- Get quotes from 3-4 banks (compare), 3- Tell your current bank 'competitor is cheaper', 4- Ask for a written offer (email), 5- Check the contract (are there staged conditions?), 6- Renegotiate in 6 months

Wondering: Is the commission different for debit cards (bank cards) vs credit cards? Because debit is usually lower. What's the split between debit and credit for your customers?

bro negotiating POS rates is a solid move! did you see that a 2% discount on 50k vloume saves you 500 lira a month? that's 6k a year. tbh negotiate, save money!

How did you solve this? If it's your first time, start small; scaling comes later.

Any unwritten clause becomes a point of disagreement later, as both sides remember it differently. Of course, it varies if your situation is different.

I dont think this advice fits everyone. honestly the harder it is to reverse a decision the slower you should make it.

Proven by experience.

I went through the same thing two years ago. Everything goes well for the first three months; problems arise in the fourth.

If I were you, I'd go this route.

I've been down this road, let me tell you. When making a decision, first look at what data you have on hand.

The biggest time-waster for us was not knowing who had the final say.

The cheap-looking path usually ends up costing more later. Just because everyone does it doesn't mean it's right.

Hope this helps.

This is my opinion, I'm not claiming it's absolute truth.
