i sell furniture in istanbul. the customer comes to the physical store, sits on the sofa says 'i want this one'. i say 'ok order', i get it from the warehouse via courier. the customer tries it but says 'uh the color is different'! even though its THE SAME SOFA THEY SAT ON IN THE STORE. the customer cries, i cry too.

when this happened i asked the customer: 'you saw it in the store, could it be different without you?' they said 'yes i felt cold at home'. what was i supposed to say? i eat the shipping cost getting it there, and getting it back. second customer same thing, but said 'fabric is dusty'. i don't know if the fabric is dusty or not, i don't understand a damn thing.

right now 3 out of my 10 customers have returned items. i lose labor i lose shipping. when customers ask for a refund i say 'exchange only' 'no money back'. the customer gets angry and writes '2 stars, company is sinking' on online review platforms. what am i supposed to do in this situation?

This problem is a classic industry issue. Solution: Tell the client the 'real date'. Then maintain patience.

Correction: I misremembered the figure, it was a bit lower.

These kinds of questions are always the same: decide, do, either succeed or fail.

Data analysis: As demand increases, capacity usually drops by 30-50%. That's your situation. You need to increase capacity.

legally, you should have a written contract with the customer in this situation. terms must be clear. advice: get a lawyer.

procedure: first, create a written policy. have the customer sign it. then enforce it.

I feel the same way. Mistaking revenue for cash is the most expensive illusion; trust the bank account.

My perspective changed after experiencing that. Taking notes for two weeks yields better results than a six-month estimate.

That's all, sorry if I went on too long.

There's a common mistake people make when doing this. Mistaking revenue for cash is the most expensive illusion; trust the bank account.

Just leaving this note, it might be useful.

Exactly like that. The moment you depend on a single client, you no longer set the price.

I went through the same thing two years ago. The biggest time-waster for us was not knowing who had the final say.

Good luck with that.
