We need capital for our startup but couldn't find a VC, we're thinking of finding an angel investor. What exactly is an angel investor? Do they take equity or give a loan?

I heard an angel investor is an informal investor, not institutional. But the question is: how does equity work? What documents like SAFE are needed? How do I find one?

Angel investor: individual investor, usually invests 25k-500k dollars in exchange for equity. Not an institutional investor, invests with their own money. The name 'Angel' means they provide money in the first round.

Equity system: if you give 10% equity (example), the angel investor invests 50k dollars then the company valuation is 500k dollars (math). Document: SAFE (Simple Agreement for Future Equity) is common or a Stock Purchase Agreement. Hire a lawyer to prepare the docs.

finding an angel investor is very hard bro. i found one but, if it was the father of someone you know maybe it would be easier. but if you search in institutional networks: startup events investor pitches, online platforms (Angel.co etc)

To find an angel: 1- open a profile on Angel.co and show traction 2- attend startup events (pitch your product) 3- add people looking for angels on LinkedIn (keyword: angel investor), 4- apply to accelerator programs (Teknokent Teknopol etc) 5- join entrepreneur networks

'Angel' investor: the type who gives money during the curse and doesn't shut up if it fails. :) I'm serious angels give connections and mentorship along with money. That's why it's important, network is more than money.

There are three things to check when doing this. When we decide without measuring, we always end up in the same place.

Saved. Taking notes for two weeks yields better results than a six-month estimate.

Just leaving this note, it might be useful.

I'm a small business, let me explain from my side. The answer varies greatly by industry; there is no one-size-fits-all rule.

Hope this helps.

I've been dealing with this for a long time. Everyone rushing into angel investor gets stuck at the same point.

Good luck with that.

The answer above hits the nail on the head. When you try to change everything at once, nothing settles.

If IP assignment to the company isn't written from the start, it can't be collected later. Just leaving this note, it might be useful.

I think it's hard to be that definitive about angel investor. I mean do a small three-month project before talking stocks so you see each other.

Mistakes made on the angel investor side are usually reversible but expensive. If I were you, I'd go this route.

Don't miss this: When making decisions, write down the worst-case scenario too, not just the best.

Exactly like that. If you don't write this down from the start, it leads to arguments later.

Most time waste accumulates in tasks waiting for approval. That's all, sorry if I went on too long.

I feel the same way. Taking notes for two weeks yields better results than a six-month estimate.

When making a decision, first look at what data you have on hand.

I disagree with you on this point. Just because everyone does it doesn't mean it's right.

Good luck with that.

We got stuck at the same point for a while. If you don't write this down from the start, it leads to arguments later.

Proven by experience.
