Need software for table reservations. I can code simple stuff myself but it's not right, should I outsource it?

i run a restaurant. customers book tables by phone and I write them in a notebook and the system is broken now. i switched to Ecel but it's still messy... i need software.

i can code PHP (hobby level), maybe I could build a system that works for two-three months. but it's not professional maintenance would be hard and is it more expensive than an open-source program worth millions?

should I outsource it, or just do it myself? what should I prefer in terms of rental costs compatibility and integration?

The decision is this: If this system will be used for 3 months, do it yourself. If you'll run it for 2-3 years, outsource it. Because there are risks of maintenance, backup, updates, and data loss if you build it yourself.

Budget is between 5-10k, you can get suitable software done with a good freelancer. Or use SaaS (like Nowaitlist, TableNow), 500 lira a month, 0 setup. Which one makes sense?

im also a restaurant owner, i built my own system, then a bug popped up at 3 am, an antivirus product messed with the tables, customers went crazy. now i pay for SaaS, no issues at all

Best: Get a SaaS program (Airbnb, Booking, or Mehmet in Turkey). 500-1000 lira monthly, zero setup automatic backup, customer support included. The time for DIY is past for most businesses.

I'm curious, how many tables do you have now, average reservations per day? Because if it's small, Excel is enough. If it's big, you need SaaS. Tell me the numbers.

if you code it yourself, bugs will pop up and you wont have time to test since youre at the restaurant. if the outsourced software costs 5000+ the budget gets bad. honestly saaS is the middle ground: cheap, works, and you dont write dead code later.

In terms of software management: customer data (tables, times, names) is in a database. Your own system has SQL injection risks, backup issues, and doesn't scale. SaaS is secure, has automatic backup, and has an API. Technically, SaaS.

I have an objection here. Everyone rushing into getting a reservation system built gets stuck at the same point.

If you have questions, write them; I'll answer as best I can.

The opposite happened to me, that's why I'm writing. Just because everyone does it doesn't mean it's right.

Good luck with that.

Looking at it as a process, the picture changes. The real issue isn't the number, but what it's based on.

If you don't write this down from the start, it leads to arguments later.

I felt relieved reading this answer, so it's not just me. Don't enter any agreement without an exit plan.

Could you elaborate on that? Mistakes made on the getting a reservation system built side are usually reversible but expensive.

Of course, it varies if your situation is different.

I disagree with you on this point. Look where the bucket leaks; pouring water on top doesn't solve it.

Quick summary for newcomers: Finding a new customer is more expensive than keeping an existing one.

Great work. Processes without records never improve, because you don't know what to fix.

Just leaving this note, it might be useful.
