what to write on category pages, do you need to add content other than the title?

the goal of a category page is twofold: 1) show the customer the product range 2) send google the message that you're an expert in this category. summary: category description + internal links + product list = successful category page.

adding a mini blog post is a good strategy. for example, a 'how to choose the right t-shirt' post in the 'Men's T-shirt' category — recommend products in that post and link to those product pages. love from humans + bots.

we hadn't optimized our category pages at all. someone on the content team wrote a 250-word description and added structured data. even if the category page's ranking didn't increase the click-through rate went up because people read the description and went to the products.

i didn't notice a change in ranking at first but after 4-5 months the category page itself started ranking on google, that's when i realized content matters.

on the category page, list products but also add blog posts for the best categories. people read it, you get ranking win-win.

category page schema: add Product Category schema to show google the hierarchy. breadcrumb navigation too (Home > Clothing > Men's T-shirt) improves user and bot experience.

category page: mine just lists products and competitor: description + blog + reviews. google: ranks the competitor laves you behind. lesson: dont neglect category pages.
