Monthly fees at shipping companies are getting out of hand, should I open my own warehouse or rent one for cheaper?

Im in e-commerce. I ship 50-100 packages a day. The shipping company charges 3000 lira monthly (pickup, shipping, sorting, tracking). This often exceeded the cost... btw how much would it be if I opened my own warehouse?

Renting a warehouse: 2000 lira/month (small place outskirts). Staff: 1 person 4000 lira. Shipping equipment: 1000/month for 5 months installments. anyway electricity, internet: 500.

Did the math: Shipping company 3000 own warehouse 7500. But the shipping company advertises but doesn't really transport I learned that when I tried to transport myself. What should the decision be? like continue with shipping, or invest and open a warehouse?

Look at the numbers: If you say 50-100 packages/day, that's 1500-3000 packages monthly. The shipping company's 3000 liras is actually cheap. Because there's scale. If you open your own warehouse, staff costs will be high, efficiency will be low.

The right line: If you ship 300+ packages a day, it's worth opening your own warehouse. If not, stick with the shipping company. But negotiate with the shipping company, ask for a better price for 50-100 packages.

Analysis: 50-100 packages, 1500-3000 packages monthly. If the shipping company charges 3000, that's a 1-2% service fee. That's cheap. You should only open your own warehouse if you're doing at least 400 packages a day. Don't invest yet, just keep working with them.

I'm curious: what does that 3000 lira from the shipping company actually cover? Pickup, shipping, tracking? Because sometimes there are hidden costs. If you give me a full breakdown, I can calculate it more accurately.

You think the shipping company is expensive? Then try another carrier within the competitive range. Yex, Aras, Hızlı Express, etc. I think shipping prices are negotiable. Opening a warehouse is premature; grow your sales first.

Bro solid question! I mean on one hand, its true that shipping costs are escaping you but opening a warehouse has its own challenges. Scale up, hit 300 packages a day, then open a warehouse... Youre not ready yet!

if youre leaving the shipping company to open a warehouse itd be weird: the shipping company is a 'headache' the warehouse is 'heart surgery' but btw :) Let the shipping company handle it grow your sales, then think about the warehouse.

It depends on economies of scale in logistics. When small, shipping companies are cheaper. When big, your own warehouse is cheaper. You're small. A shipping company is enough until customer satisfaction increases and sales go up 3-5x.

I went through the same thing two years ago. Any unwritten clause becomes a point of disagreement later as both sides remember it differently.

The answer varies greatly by industry; there is no one-size-fits-all rule.

We've heard this a lot, but it never happened like that for us. Everything goes well for the first three months; problems arise in the fourth.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

The cheap-looking path usually ends up costing more later. The real issue isn't the number, but what it's based on.

Trying to do this alone is the most expensive way. tbh just leaving this note it might be useful.

Do you think this works at any scale? The answer varies greatly by industry; there is no one-size-fits-all rule.

If I were you, I'd go this route.

Don't miss this: The biggest time-waster for us was not knowing who had the final say.

Start with a small trial; don't commit to everything at once. I'm also curious if anyone does it differently.

My perspective changed after experiencing that. like if you don't write this down from the start it leads to arguments later.

When making decisions write down the worst-case scenario too, not just the best... Proven by experience.

The answer above hits the nail on the head. Changing habits is harder and more expensive than setting up a system.

If I were you I'd go this route.

It's rare to find an explanation this clear.
