I started a new company after closing a startup — was the second attempt different?

when the first company closed, we really clung to this idea. dealing with failure is hard. but within six months we started moving with the idea of 'trying again'.

while starting the second company we did the exact opposite of what we did in the first. in the first, we looked for 'investors', in the second we started 'self-funded'. in the first, we built a 'big team', in the second we started with 'three people + consultant'. in the first, we made a 'trendy' product, in the second we made what 'people wanted'.

the result? we grew the second company faster and cheaper. because we knew what not to do. success often comes from 'not doing the wrong thing' rather than 'doing the right thing'.

starting over for the second time works like a psychiatrist, it's just healing. understand the mistakes in the first attempt — then you can build a better company with a consistent strategy.

most successful people failed in their first venture. second-timers are more disciplined, more transparent, more patient. because they are free from fear they don't hesitate to make risky decisions.

i started a new one after closing the first and it was totally different... the first time i acted like the 'boss', the second time like an 'employee'. but i managed the business better.

checklist for starting a second time: 1) what did you cut in the first company? keep it written down. 2) what was the customer feedback? listen again. 3) who were the wrong partners? be careful next time. 4) what was the wrong product? pick a completely different product/service.

every failed startup is like an educational institution. the costs are heavy but the lessons are valuable. those who start a second time make better decisions by leveraging knowledge — failure becomes a guide.

this has been done a lot already tons of people started new ones after closing theirs then you wont necessarily succeed but the failure rate goes down.

note: I wrote this based on my own experience, it might not apply to everyone.

when you succeed the second time, you see that first closure as a reward! tbh because if that closure hadn't happened this success wouldn't have been possible!

This is exactly what we experienced. Just because everyone does it doesn't mean it's right.

Just leaving this note, it might be useful.

The discussion got scattered, let me summarize. Pausing growth to breathe is also a strategy, nobody says that.

Extending terms makes customers happy but turns you into a financing institution. Good luck with that.

Timely topic. Mistaking revenue for cash is the most expensive illusion; trust the bank account.

You're right I've been down that road too. Cutting your own salary is a temporary tactic; if it lasts more than six months, something will break.

Correct. Everything goes well for the first three months; problems arise in the fourth.

We got stuck at the same point for a while. The real issue isn't the number, but what it's based on.

If you don't write this down from the start it leads to arguments later. This is my opinion, I'm not claiming it's absolute truth.

Let me write how it's done in practice. Taking notes for two weeks yields better results than a six-month estimate.

Just leaving this note, it might be useful.

If you get three different answers on a topic, the question was asked wrong. I'm also curious if anyone does it differently.

I've been dealing with this for a long time. If it's your first time, start small; scaling comes later.

If you post the result here, it will help others too.

We need to take it step by step. The answer varies greatly by industry; there is no one-size-fits-all rule.

That's all, sorry if I went on too long.

I've been dealing with this for a long time. Trying to do this alone is the most expensive way.
