The agency designed the site but didn't write the copy — is content service paid separately? Why don't agencies include this?

We signed a website design contract with an agency. The design and technical setup are done, but we have to write the content for all pages OURSELVES. We've never tried that before writing isn't really our thing. We asked the agency, they said 'content writing is a separate package'.

There was another 3-year-old agency at a different firm. I asked them, they said 'pay 1000 TL/page extra, we'll write it'. But our agency quoted 2000 TL/page! We said we'd write it ourselves but the site is turning out bad.

'Content writing' isn't in the contract. We complained to the agency, they said 'it's not included in our standard package'. So is a site normally delivered without content? Is that fair?

We're really angry but there's nothing we can do. If we'd known from the start, we'd have chosen the agency differently. Is content writing that important, why is it out of the package?

In Turkey, site design and content writing are usually offered as two separate services. The reason: 1) Designers and writers have different specializations — if both aren't high quality, the result is bad. 2) Payment models differ — design is 'one-time', content is 'ongoing'.

Standard practice: the designer builds the site (with dummy/sample content), then a writer fills in this content and optimizes it (for SEO). If the agency says 'we write it', they charge extra because it adds value.

The mistake in your contract is here: even though you defined the 'scope' in detail, the 'deliverables' weren't listed. As a lesson learned, when hiring another agency, ask this right away: 'How many pages of draft content will be included in the design delivery? If content writing is priced separately, how much per page?'

They should've asked there too but whatever. We told the agency we hired that content is included, ended up being all in one package for 45k. The other agency quoted 30k for design + 5k*10 pages = 80k. How were we supposed to know, but that's how it goes.

most agencies don't include content. seo optimized content is a whole different ballgame... hiring a freelance writer turns out cheaper imo.

Average Content Writing Prices (Turkey): - Standard: 500-1000 TL/page - SEO Optimized: 1000-2000 TL/page - Agency (markup): 1500-3000 TL/page - Freelancer: 200-500 TL/page Difference: experience, skill, turnaround time

So, what did 'website delivery' cover in the contract? Design files, live pages, or a tested system? It seems like a detail, but the delivery scope changes the starting point of the service...

Quick fix: 1) Find a freelance writer (500 TL/page). 2) Make a 'content insert' agreement with the agency (let them handle the upload too). 3) You need to agree on a total 'xy' TL deal for design + content in the future. It's too late now but just a heads up.

I'm curious too. The harder it is to reverse a decision, the slower you should make it.

That's all, sorry if I went on too long.

I'd appreciate it if you shared the outcome. Taking notes for two weeks yields better results than a six-month estimate.

Solutions that work at a small scale collapse when you grow; I learned this late. This is my opinion, I'm not claiming it's absolute truth.

The opposite happened to me, that's why I'm writing. The cheapest quote is usually the least thought-out one.

We got stuck at the same point for a while. Implementing a change request process doesn't slow things down, it speeds them up.

Hope this helps.

absolutely. if I were to add anything: When you try to change everything at once, nothing settles.

of course it varries if your situation is different.

i feel the same way... honestly if it's your first time, start small; scaling comes later.

hope this helps.

I was thinking the same thing. anyway the cheapest quote is usually the least thought-out one.

Weekly written progress reports are much more useful than asking for dates. Correct me if Im wrong.

Noted, thanks. The system lives on after delivery; maintenance is a separate line item.

Don't hesitate to ask; those who don't ask always pay more. If you have questions, write them; I'll answer as best I can.

Thanks, this was very helpful. Processes without records never improve because you don't know what to fix.

Code without setup documentation isn't yours even if you have it. Of course, it varies if your situation is different.

The cheap-looking path usually ends up costing more later. In legacy systems, the most expensive thing is unknown dependencies.

If you don't write this down from the start, it leads to arguments later. If you post the result here, it will help others too.
